As with any vehicle extreme care must be used to prevent loss of control or roll-over during sharp turns or abrupt maneuvers. Always wear seat belts, and drive safely, recognizing that reduced speeds and specialized driving techniques may be required. Failure to drive a vehicle safely may result in serious injury or death. Do not drive a vehicle unless you are familiar with its unique handling characteristics and are confident of your ability to maintain control under all driving conditions. Some modifications (and combinations of modifications) are not recommended and may not be permitted in your state or country. Consult the owner’s manual, service manual, instructions accompanying these products, and local laws before purchasing and installing these modifications. You are responsible for the legality and safety of the vehicle you modify using these components. SPECIAL NOTES: • WARNING: An accurate boost gauge is required for proper installation and adjustment of this product. Improper installation and use of this product will damage the turbocharger, engine and may result in injury or death! PERRIN Performance is in no way responsible for any damages as a result of the installation of this product! • Do not attempt to install without a boost gauge or an accurate way to read boost. • Since the boost controller can allow 30+psi of boost, it can exceed the power output your engine is designed for. This will lead to engine failure! Consult a professional tuner to decide which boost level is best for your engine. Parts Included with PERRIN Manual Boost Controller: • (1) PERRIN Manual Boost Controller • (6’) 5/32 vacuum hose • (5) ZiP ties INSTALLATION: 1) Open hood and locate turbocharger. 2) Locate and remove any and all factory boost management hoses and tee’s from turbo charger and wastegate. Do not unplug any of the electronic control system, as this will cause a check engine light. NOTE: Many factory turbocharged vehicles have restrictors inside of hoses & lines leading from the compressor side of the turbo. Make sure to remove these restrictors, as they will affect boost response when using this controller. 3) Using supplied hose and zip ties, attach one end of hose to the compressor (boost) side of the turbo compressor housing. Trim to length and attach other side of hose to Input side (Logo’ed side) of PERRIN Manual Boost Controller. 4) Using supplied hose and zip ties, attach one end of hose to the wastegate input connection. Trim to length and attach other side of hose to Output side (Silver side) of PERRIN Manual Boost Controller. NOTE: This connection is the same for both internal and external waste gates, except when using an external wastegate attach the hose to the lower vacuum port as shown in diagrams below. 5) Secure lines and controller to suitable location away from direct heat source using supplied wire ties. (FIGURE 1. INTERNAL WASTEGATE) (FIGURE 2. EXTERNAL WASTEGATE) ADJUSTMENT AND TUNING: 1) Loosen output side of boost controller until 5 grooves are visible (makes boost controller longer). The 5th groove on shaft should be aligned with body. This is the minimum boost setting and is the furthest amount the boost controller should ever be unscrewed. NOTE: Minimum setting on manual boost controller will equal the boost level set by spring in wastegate actuator. Boost can be added but it cannot be reduced to a value lower than that! NOTE: Do not disassemble controller as parts may be lost or damage to part may result! 2) Tightening output side of boost controller (makes boost controller shorter) will increase your boost level. Each complete revolution will equal approximately 1.5 psi of increased boost. NOTE: When making adjustments, be sure to disconnect hose from output side of boost controller. If hose is not disconnected while making adjustments, hose will twist and Potentially change boost settings as hose wants to un-twist. 3) Road test after each adjustment until desired boost level is achieved. Make sure when testing boost level, that 3rd gear or higher is used. If 1st or 2nd is used, boost in higher gears will be too high and cause engine damage. COMMON QUESTIONS: • Why is my cars boost is spiking? Boost controller is set too tight (less lines visible on output side), Boost controller is hooked up backwards, or possibly a hose with restrictor is placed in boost hose. • Why is my cars boost is too low? Boost controller is set too loose (too many lines visible on output side), boost controller may be hooked up to the factory tee-type system, not like the diagram shows. • Why can I not get more than my desired amount? This can be caused by many things, like the turbo being too small to be able to hold the desired boost, boost leak in the boost system, bad turbo, wastegate spring pressure is too low, or desired boost is unreasonable for your car. • I took my Boost Controller aPart on accident and I can’t remember how it came apart! Using below diagram, hold Input side of boost controller so the nipple is facing ground, drop ball in, drop spring in, screw silver output side into body. NOTE: Make sure to align spring with small counter bore in silver outPut side while screwing together.
