The "cradle" of my ESC activities has been centered around the Scientific Constituent Bodies. I enjoyed profoundly the work in the nucleus of the Working Group on Pharmacotherapy which I had the pleasure to chair in 2006-2008. I have gained broad insight into the various roles of Associations, Councils, and Working Groups through my membership and active participation in several of these. When I served as Councilor on the 2012-2014 ESC Board, my allocated task, on the other hand, was dedicated to the Affiliated Cardiac Societies outside of Europe. Next, my duties as Vice-President on the subsequent 2014-2016 ESC Board were focused on the National Cardiac Societies, the Cardiologists of Tomorrow and the Editors' Network. By reinforcing visits to the National Societies, I learned a lot about the diversity of our Society, and what is important to the different countries, with different cultures and healthcare systems. Finally, in my current role as Treasurer, I have gained profound insights about the economic status of our society. Engaging in purely scientific tasks has, however, remained the core of my fulfilment within our Society, and I feel I have been highly rewarded by the efforts put into 9 Guideline Writing Committees as well as the privilege of presenting at our ESC congresses at several Hotline sessions. Visions for the European Society of Cardiology Building on the current, outstanding strategic plan, the major pillars of 'Science', 'Education' and 'Congress' will continue to be high-priority focus areas of the ESC, with a particular need of relentless adaption to new environments in media, technology and communication. One focus will also be on membership, i.e., a more individualized approach to belonging. Further, Advocacy will be further developed thanks to the incessant opportunities from our Brussels operational platform. And finally, the aphorism of "our diversity is our strength" will be kept alive by both embracing and keeping together all our scientific bodies (i.e., Associations, Working Groups, and Councils), and by serving our various membership countries, representing geographical and cultural diversity. The future is bright for the ESC but hard work will be required to accomplish our goals. May I finally humbly point to my extensive knowledge of the ESC “from within”, having served on the previously listed positions during the last 15 years. This knowledge will safeguard continuity to the society, and at the same time allow for evolution and innovation. Taken together, my election would bring to the ESC an energetic and solid leadership role of experience, dedication and integrity. Colleagues and friends: I herewith declare that I am willing to dedicate enough time for the task as President-Elect, a fact that is fully supported by both my family and my employer. My sincere thank you for considering your support of my candidacy. With very best regards, Dan Atar .
