She brought nine others for instruction and baptism </p><p>Trinity Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN made this possible </p><p>9</p><p>THE OPEN&nbsp;DOOR </p><p>ŸAt Kannur in North Malabar. A youth oriented student library and reading room in a bustling port city </p><p>ŸGeneral and Christian books, journals and newspapers are provided, and an evangelist meets the visitors </p><p>ŸPublic discussion forums and music programs. Evangelist Rejidas gave leadership </p><p>St. Armands Key Lutheran <br>Church, Sarasota, FL made this ministry possible </p><p>10 </p><p>“VANITHA” - WOMEN’S FRIENDSHIP CENTRE </p><p>ŸOpposite the government <br>Women’s Arts and Science College at Kannur, the Centre serves female college students </p><p>ŸTwo women workers conduct the program in an attractive building purchased for this purpose </p><p>ŸStudying and reading materials, computer assistance, course textbooks, fellowship and worship </p><p>The MMS raised a loan to buy this fine building for the work in Kannur </p><p>11 </p><p>Reaping a Harvest </p><p>Kudan Sab, baptized at age 75, says “Thank you” </p><p>“The harvest is plentiful ...send out labourers” (Mt. 9:37) </p><p>12 </p><p>THE ANANTAPUR MOVEMENT </p><p>ŸReaching beyond Malabar with the gospel </p><p>Andhra Pradesh </p><p>ŸFour districts in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states </p><p>Anantapur Work Area </p><p>Ÿ</p><p>In a spontaneous grassroots </p><p>Karnataka </p><p>development large numbers of Muslims and Hindus are turning to Christ and his way of love </p><p>Tamil Nadu <br>Kerala </p><p>South India </p><p>13 </p><p>THE ANANTAPUR MOVEMENT </p><p>Ÿ</p><p>It is led by Shaikh Ismail, a gentle but strong leader </p><p>Ÿ</p><p>It is fostered by 24 evangelists, all new believers </p><p>Ÿ</p><p>It is a New Testament-style of church planted in Telugu-speaking villages </p><p>Shaikh Ismail conducting a baptism </p><p>14 </p><p>REV. K.K. ALAVI MINISTRY </p><p>ŸThe “New Hope Mission” at Manjeri in <br>South Malabar </p><p>ŸK.K. is a famed Muslim convert with a courageous and exciting ministry </p><p>ŸFully supported and sponsored by members of Faith Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, Minnesota and others; the M.M.S. provides backing </p><p>K.K. Alavi deals with letters from inquirers in the thousands </p><p>15 </p><p>Serving in Love </p><p>Dr. Sophie, Medical Superintendent, <br>Christian Welfare Centre </p><p>“But I am among you as one who serves” (Lk. 22:27) </p><p>16 </p><p>MEDICAL WORK </p><p>ŸThe Christian Welfare Centre at <br>Malappuram, South Malabar, evolved from a women’s and children’s ministry </p><p>ŸPre and post-natal care and other services in a booming program, with Dr. Sophie Brillin giving the leadership </p><p>ŸAt Wandoor, Karunalaya Hospital is looking at new directions; help is given to both institutions for equipment, snake bite medicine, and other needs </p><p>C.W.C., Malappuram </p><p>17 </p><p>EDUCATIONAL WORK </p><p>ŸSeveral nursery schools are at work in a program started by Mrs. Mary Helen Miller and Mrs. Mildred Francis. The love and care for children opens the door to families </p><p>ŸSchools are self supporting, but need occasional help for equipment and facilities </p><p>ŸOccasional support goes to the Otten School at Wandoor; K-12 with 800+&nbsp;students; started by Mr. D. Appukuttan, it has a strong community impact </p><p>First nursery school at Malappuram </p><p>18 </p><p>ESL </p><p>ŸAt Kannur, an Accent Reduction program for young educated women </p><p>Ÿ</p><p>Intensive accent reduction seminars that involve volunteer teaching teams from North America </p><p>ŸThe training potentially opens the way for employment, including jobs in call centres </p><p>English as a Second Language. <br>Our volunteers called it an unforgettable experience </p><p>19 </p><p>Discipling Believers </p><p>Workers in the vineyard </p><p>“...Teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you” (Mt. 28:20) </p><p>20 </p>
