An exhibition at Southwell Minster — Labour of love: Embroidery’s tribute An exhibition of embroidery— and vestments to mark the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Her Majesty The Queen 18 May —– 16 June 2013 Monday to Saturday 10.00 – 5.00 Sundays 12.30–5.00 — Admission £5 Accompanied children under 16, free Supported by The Friends of Southwell Cathedral Further information 01636 817 283 Labour of Love: Embroidery’s Tribute — This exhibition celebrates The Queen’s 60 years of service since her coronation on 2nd June 1953 with a variety of loans. Colourful and precious embroideries have a traditional role in honouring Church and State and the display will include important vestments loaned from St. Paul’s Cathedral and Winchester Cathedral. In addition, we will have on show the dress worn by one of the young girls who carried The Queen’s coronation robe in Westminster Abbey. At the end of our exhibition, the dress goes from Southwell Minster to Buckingham Palace where it will form part of The Royal Collection’s own coronation exhibition. — The exhibition is organised by Hilary Tinley and the Southwell Minster Needlework Guild and is supported by The Friends of Southwell Cathedral. — Admission £5 (includes printed exhibition guide) Accompanied children under 16, free — A programme of events will allow adults and children to explore embroidery techniques and materials, providing opportunities to handle fine fabrics and threads and learn more. A free interactive trail leaflet will be available for children throughout the exhibition, as well as family activities during half term from 26th May – 1st June. Workshops and tours for schools and groups are available by prior arrangement with the education team, and work by local schools is to be exhibited.
