Collect the Color Scheme SPECIAL WORDS Analogous: Three colors sitting next to each other on the color wheel, such as green, blue-green and blue. Complementary: Colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel. These colors make each other look really bright. For example: Orange and Blue. Composition/Design: the way visual parts (the things you are drawing or painting) are arranged and placed on your paper. ART OUTSIDE! SUMMER 2020 Suggested age group: 8-12 years BIG IDEA Apply visual organizational strategies to design and produce a work of art, design, or media that clearly communicates information or ideas. THE COLOR CT SC LLE HE O M C E STEP ONE : FIND Your Challenge: Try to find an Analogous Color Scheme and a Complementary Color Scheme outside in nature. Decide if you will collect your items or move around to sit by each one as you paint it. If you are going to collect, make sure you have permission to take the items. STEP TWO : LOOK CLOSELY Study the shapes and details of each item. Your item might have more than one color, and that’s ok! What is the main color? For example a ladybug is mostly red even though it also has some black and white on it. Decide if you will paint each object on a separate page or all on one page. If you are choosing one page how will you design your composition? Where will each item go on the page so that it will be interesting to look at? STEP THREE : PAINT! After lightly sketching your items use your paint to record the colors you see. If you have already experimented with the different watercolor techniques do any of them seem like they would work the best for the object you are wanting to paint? STEP FOUR : SHARE When you are finished, share with a family member or friend! Tell them what you learned, what was easy, what was fun, or what was hard. .
