This principle remains foundational today through our advocacy work, program delivery, and the unwavering belief that there is great in every girl and that together we find it. This work requires a clear vision, teamwork, trust, and a caring community. It requires agility, innovation, and a commitment to learning. And the benefits are enormous. This past year we had the opportunity to help more than 3,000 girls change their life trajectories and become the architects of a better future by finding the great in themselves. Over the course of the year, we opened our 20th Pace Center in Hernando County. We expanded the successful Reach model to eight counties across Florida, providing much needed counseling, case management, and mental health services to girls in schools and the community. And we continue to lay the foundation to expand what we have accomplished in Florida in other states. Over the past several years, we have also had the opportunity to work with our elected officials to help change systems and policies that stand in the way of girls’ success, and this work has contributed to a 50 percent decrease in the number of girls who are involved in the juvenile justice system across the state. Why does this matter? It matters because our Pace girls are our next generation of mothers, community leaders, and workforce, and when they are successful, we all benefit. We are grateful for the support from donors, volunteers, partners, and our staff. Your continuing support makes everything we do possible. It is what inspires us to do more, to never give up on our girls, and to never let them give up on themselves. Thank you for helping us find the great in every girl. Billie Rawot Mary Marx Chair, Board of Trustees President & CEO 3 Daniela Smith DANIELA’S STORY Started Pace 2009 Graduated High School 2013 Earned a PhD in Sociology For me, the Pace program has been a life-changing experience. I grew up in what most would consider a traditional family environment. My mother was a teacher, and my father worked in law enforcement. But behind closed doors were a lot of issues between my parents that we all kept a secret. The traumatizing events between my parents really influenced my behavior growing up. By the time I was 12, I was already in the juvenile justice system. The diversion program that I was put into was not beneficial for anything I was going through; there was no therapy or rehabilitation offered, and I just felt like it was a waste of time. Despite the broken system, the diversion programs led me to Pace. I always knew that I wanted a better life. My parents were not the best role models, but they did teach me the importance of education, and I wasn’t ready to give that up. I wanted to find a place that would ground me and give me the direction I desperately needed. Pace was my last hope of redemption. When I first started Pace, I was still emotionally closed off. I kept “Without Pace, I wouldn’t to myself and didn’t want to make new friends or open up to have overcome the emotional the teachers and counselors. But after a while, I began to let my guard down, and the friendships and relationships I made at trauma of my past to be able Pace became some of the most important in my life.
