One brother from St. Thomas Aquinas also joined the Order at that time and took both degrees. A ceremonial team from St. Brigid Council 13204 came to McGivney Hall to administer the 2nd de- gree. We were honored that our past grand knight and current state deputy, Rick Sisko, participated as a member of the St. Brigid team. We also voted to re-admit Steve Valenti to our Steve Valenti council. He had been inactive since 1983. Eucharistic Guardians Needed As the ministry chair for Eucharistic Adoration, I am sending you this email to personally invite you to spend time in our lovely Adoration Chapel during the year. Additionally, we are in need of Guardians (people who commit to one hour of time a week) for specific time slots which you can view on the schedule located in the binder on the table across from Our Lady of the Knights Adora- tion Chapel's door. Please prayerfully consider becoming a Guardian. For safety purposes, we have added a coded lock to the Chapel door as we intend to have occasional 24 hour Ado- ration days in the future. The code for the door is 1979*. If you should forget this code, it is also in the Adoration sign-in binder on the weekly schedule under the Friday title. If you are already a Guardian, thank you for your commitment. We hope your time with Jesus has sent you many blessings and graces. If you would like more information, please email me at [email protected] . 2 Vivat Jesus-- Therese Birkbeck (wife of Sir Knight Doug Birkbeck) 404-213-7510 2 Additional Brothers Progressing to 2nd Degree Jerry Adkins Bill Camden Dave Davis Len Dorrien Bill Garrett Jack Kill Jim Gonzales Ralph O’Connor Dave Pavadore Steve Pfister Robert Scoboda Jim Talley These 12 first degree brothers progressed to the second degree as did the three new brothers on the previous page. Because we are still 275 meals behind last year, we need three more nights of near 1,300 to beat last year. It is difficult, but not impossible. We ask everyone to bring their families and neighbors to the last three events to continue our record streak. Only those youngsters who had won or tied their divisions previously were allowed to compete. Our district was able to send seven youngsters on to the state finals in Macon, Georgia on March 16th. Each participant got a souvenir medal and a KofC basketball for participating. Some of our winners with council connections are shown below. Bruce Malinoff sent us the left picture showing him demonstrating proper dunking techniques to the young basketballers. Only later did we discover that he and Bryan Kler had conspired to photo- shop the picture. Bruce has never come close to dunking a basketball (even when starting from a chair or a six-foot ladder). 5 5 Additional Acolytes Needed All Saints Council 11402 has a special parish service ministry that may be unique over all the councils in the world. We know of no other council that provides rotating teams of knight altar servers that assist on the altar at all funeral Masses in their parish. We currently have about 70 brothers assigned to 5 teams that provide this service first requested by former pastor Monsignor Donald Kiernan in 1998. Acolytes wear matching outfits composed of navy blue blazers, medium grey dress slacks, white shirts, black shoes and socks. The council provides each with a blue Knights of Columbus logo tie worth $30. A full complement of Mass acolytes might consist of a cross bearer, two torch bearers, two water and wine handlers, and an incense bearer. Team members alternate roles and learn them all in good time. Visitors to All Saints marvel at the reverence and professionalism of the formal presentation that each parish funeral exhibits. There are about 50 funerals per year at All Saints, and some other special Mass occasions utilize our teams as well. If you work during the week, we can still use you on Saturdays or for special evening Masses. If you have been wondering how to serve your council and the parish in an enjoyable and meaningful way, please contact our Acolyte Director, Norbert Braza, at 770-393-8645 or [email protected] . No previous altar server experience is necessary, you will be trained. Any knight is eligible.
