ROLE INFORMATION PACK PATHWAY MANAGER Part time: 24 hours per week £32-34,000 pro rata per annum Start Date: To be discussed with successful candidate, by end of August 2021 Job Description Background/Base Welsh Rowing is recruiting for a Pathway Manager to oversee the Performance and Talent pathway for Welsh rowers. This new role will promote high standards of rowing performance in Wales, facilitating opportunities for Wales’ most talented rowers and coaches to develop, learn from each other and perform on the national and international stage. The postholder must be in a position to work from home in the current Covid-19 situation. When restrictions are lifted within Wales, there will be the option to work flexibly, but it will be expected that at least one day a week will be spent at the Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff. Purpose of the Job The Pathway Manager will be responsible for the ongoing evolution of a strong and sustainable performance pathway for Welsh rowers and coaches. This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and management of the Welsh Rowing coaching staff and a Pathway Officer (to be appointed). The role will have responsibility for delivering the performance elements of the Welsh Rowing strategic plan which aims to continue building a high performing Start Centre in Cardiff, provide definitive pathways between Wales and Great Britain representation, and high-performance club environments. The Pathway Manager will be expected to lead on performance across sliding seat rowing in flat water and the FISA coastal sculling disciplines for Welsh Rowing. Line Management The post-holder is responsible to the Welsh Rowing Chief Executive. Role Responsibilities o Lead the Welsh Rowing Performance Team and activity in this area within the context of the Welsh Rowing strategy. o Develop and deliver the Welsh Rowing Pathway Strategy o In conjunction with the CEO, establish and deliver a national performance plan, giving opportunities for talented Welsh rowers, para rowers and coaches to achieve their potential on the world stage. o In conjunction with the CEO, liaise with the GB Rowing Team, working in partnership with the Performance Director, Start Manager and the Chief Coaches, to facilitate the transition of more Welsh rowers onto GB teams and to disseminate best practice as appropriate across the Welsh Rowing community. o Assist the CEO in managing Welsh Rowing’s performance programme investment; setting, monitoring and reviewing key performance indicators and providing regular reports on progress against targets. o Work with colleagues within British Rowing, Welsh Rowing, Scottish Rowing Sport Wales and with key stakeholders to secure and develop resources in high performance activity. o Establish and oversee the delivery of the Welsh Rowing junior and Under-23 Talent programme. o Ensure the welfare of rowers is paramount within Welsh Rowing programmes. o Manage contracted coaches and support staff for the Start and Talent Development programmes and ensure that the quality and depth of provision aligns to the outcomes of the programme o Manage the resources of the performance team, including management of the training unit facility. o Manage the supported athlete programme, which will include Sportsaid and Elite Cymru. o Manage and deliver the Home International Regatta on behalf of Wales in hosting years, and ensure a smooth selection and logistics process for the Welsh team at HIR. o Work with Welsh Rowing staff to identify, support and develop coaches who have the potential to work with Welsh athletes on the performance pathway. o Ensure delivery of a transparent and smooth selection process for the Commonwealth Rowing Regatta General Responsibilities These include: o Following Welsh Rowing’s Policies and Procedures, ensuring that these are consistently applied by staff and rowers for whom the post-holder is responsible. Special attention must be given to Welsh Rowing’s Policies on safety, safeguarding and anti-doping. o Representing Welsh Rowing as necessary at external events including National Conferences and forums. o Such duties as may be reasonably required by the CEO to ensure the overall objectives of Welsh Rowing are met. This list is not to be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive, as there may be other reasonable duties and requirements associated with the post, which Welsh Rowing may call upon the post-holder to perform from time to time Hours The post-holder will work 24 hours per week, noting that to be successful, time in evenings and weekends will be needed.
