Co-Management of Resources in the Northwest Territories March 20, 2017 Deborah Archibald, ADM – Mineral & Petroleum Resources Industry, Tourism and Investment Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act • Co-management structure for public and private lands and waters throughout the NWT (except ISR) • Establishes Institutions of Public Government (IPGs) to: – Regulate the use of land & water – Prepare regional land use plans to guide development – Carry out environmental assessments 2 Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act Makes provisions for: - Monitoring cumulative impacts on the environment - Five-year independent audits of progress Boards are charged with considering the economic, social and cultural well-being of residents and communities 3 Institutions of Public Government Regulatory - Mackenzie Valley Land & Water Board (Yellowknife).
