ATHLETE GUIDE AQUATHLON SUNDAY 6TH JUNE 2021 Welcome to the 10th edition of the Windrush Aquathlon After a very difficult and trying year for everyone I am thrilled to welcome you all back to racing having had the event postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic last year. This fantastic community event continues to welcome athletes of all abilities to our little corner of London. We have some great sponsors that make this event possible and hope you enjoy the prizes and goodies on offer. Understandably events will be a little different with added protocols in place to mitigate against the risk of infection from Covid -19. Please read this information booklet carefully as there will be no event briefing on the day and follow all the guidelines in place to ensure everyone can participate safely. We know many of you will be competing for the first time in over a year and may be feeling a little apprehensive about the challenge ahead. We have been working very hard with the British Triathlon Federation and Lambeth Council to bring you a high-quality event that is above all safe, adhering to all COVID-19 guideline as set out by both the Government and BTF. Your participation is important to help us take precautionary measures to protect you and everyone associated with the Aquathlon. Thank you for your cooperation. By attending the Aquathlon you hereby certify that you have not within the last 14 days; • Tested positive or am presumptively positive with the Coronavirus or been identified as a potential carrier. • Experienced any symptoms commonly associated with the Coronavirus. • Been in any location designated as a risk by the Government or Public Health England. • Been in direct contact with or in the immediate vicinity of any person been identified as a carrier or potential carrier of the Coronavirus. Participants and spectators are encouraged to always wear face coverings when around the event village, lido and transition. Regular hand washing and use of hand sanitiser is advised. Social distancing must always be maintained throughout Brockwell Park and congregating near the finish line, transition area is not permitted. There is to be no spectator access poolside. Changing room facilities are limited and athletes are encouraged to come ready to race. IMPORTANT It will be compulsory for all athletes to wear a face mask throughout the event, except when racing. You must bring your own masks plus spares to the event and wear them at all times when you’re not racing. Please wear a disposable one on the way to the start. You will dispose of this mask as you enter the lido just before you start. You will then be given a second disposable mask after you cross the finish line which you will use until you return to collect your own kit from transition. unless under a wetsuit. It is not acceptable for other park users to then find, after the event, that the park has been fouled with litter from athletes participating in this event. There are opportunities to discard litter at water stations on the run course. As per British Triathlon Competition Rules, the penalty for littering is disqualification. Remember that competitors will practice good sportsmanship at all times; be responsible for their own safety and the safety of others. It is the competitor’s responsibility to know and correctly complete the full course of the event and as this is an individual event, outside assistance is not allowed and will result in disqualification. Competitors must be adequately clothed at all times and must have their whole torso in the front covered on the run. Tri-suits must be zipped up throughout the duration of the race. When on the run, the race number must be visible from the front. Race belts are permitted but do not wear numbers during the swim THE SWIM • Diving is not permitted Adults, Youth, Junior- 500m outdoor pool swim (10 lengths) • Swimming aids, propulsion and flotation devices are not permitted, this includes thermal gloves and boots, fins, flippers, etc. Tristart & GoTri Juniors - 50m – 1 length of the pool • Competitors must touch the wall at each end of the pool with a hand or foot Tristars 1 – 100m – 2 lengths of the pool (tumble-turns are permitted) Tristars 2 – 200m – 4 lengths of the pool • Wetsuit rules are, as per British Triathlon Competition Rules (section 4), dependent on water temperature: Tristars 3, Tri Fit & GoTri Adult – 300m – 6 lengths of the pool < 14°C Wetsuits mandatory 14°C - 21.9°C Wetsuits recommended > 22°C Wetsuits banned Competitors will be organised into waves with a start time, based on their submitted predicted swim time. • Bottom only wetsuits are not permitted The faster swimmers will be set off first and there will be 30-second intervals to limit • Backstroke is not allowed and only should be used if you are needing assistance overtaking.
