The Rochester Sentinel 1979 Tuesday, January 2, 1979 Earl R. Shinn Earl R. SHINN, 91, Mentone, died at 2:55 p.m. Saturday at the Miller Merry Manor nursing home, Warsaw. He was born Sept. 21, 1887 in Etna Green to John C. and Alvina Livina BAKER SHINN and had lived in Mentone most of his life. He was married June 20, 1920 to Mariam FOUTS, who survives. He served as Mentone postmaster from 1922-34 and was owner-operator of the Mentone Locker plant. He was a veteran of World War I, an honorary lifetime member of the Mentone American Legion and a member of the Mentone United Methodist church. Surviving with the wife are a son, John L. “Jack” [SHINN], Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. James (Beth) MINER, Etna Green, and Mrs. Kenneth (Pat) SHOEMAKER, Mentone; eleven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. A brother and sister preceded in death. Services were to be at 2 p.m. today at the King Memorial home, Mentone, with Brother T. R. JONES officiating. Burial was to be in the Mentone cemetery. Wednesday, January 3, 1979 [no obits] Thursday, January 4, 1979 Jannie Warren Mrs. Jannie WARREN, 85, R.R. 1, Silver Lake, died about 1 a.m. Wednesday at her residence. She was born March 11, 1893 in Burket to William H. and Antionette DRIESBACH WARREN and had lived most of her life in the Burket area. She was married Oct. 16, 1909 to Ivin LeRoy WARREN, who preceded in death. She was the former owner-operator of the Diamond Lake resort, southeast of Burket. She was a member of the Burket United Methodist church and a charter member of the Diamond Lake Conservation club. Surviving are a son, James E. [WARREN], Albion; two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor ROWLAND, R.R. 1, Silver Lake, and Mrs. Raymond (Betty) REED, Winona Lake; a brother, George WARREN, Burket; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren, and a great- great=grandchild. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the King memorial home, Mentone with the Rev. Wayne JOHNSON officiating. Burial will be in the Nichols cemetery, near Akron. Mr. Miller died Monday at the Kosciusko county hospital, Warsaw. He was born July 24, 1911 to Omer and Pearl MILLER. He lived for some time in Elwood before moving to Dewart Lake, Syracuse. He was married to Leona EADS. Surviving with the wife are five sons, Ronald [MILLER], Dayton, Ind.; Thomas, Robert, Steven and Jack [MILLER], all of Elwood; a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Barbara) SMITH, Dayton, Ind.; a step-daughter; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald [MILLER], Pendleton, Ind.; Harold [MILLER], Akron, and Gerald [MILLER], Springfield, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Marion (Mary) LEININGER, Akron. A brother died in March, 1978, and two sisters died in infancy. She was born July 23, 1961 in Logansport to Douglas A. and Norma Sharon WILSON WOODRUFF. She was a senior at Caston high school and a member of the drama club and the Sunshine Society. Surviving are the mother, Norma Sharon HEMMINGWAY, R.R. 1, Logansport; the father, Douglas WOODRUFF, Logansport; a brother, Dana Mark [WOODRUFF], at home; the paternal grandmother, Mildred FOSLER, Logansport, and the maternal grandmother, Ellen ZINN, Oklahoma. A brother, Kirk David [WOODRUFF], died July 1, 1965. She was born Feb. 13, 1903 in Kosciusko county to Albert and Sylvia PRIZER DILLMAN and had lived most of her life in the Akron area. She was married June 22, 1922 in Warsaw to David TIMBERMAN, who survives. She attended the Paw-Paw United Methodist church, near Roann. Surviving with the husband are two sons, Gerald [TIMBERMAN], R.R. 2, Macy, and Wayne [TIMBERMAN], Roann; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Geneva F. Harris Geneva Fay HARRIS, 49, Chili, died at 4:25 p.m. Thursday at South Bend Memorial hospital. She was born Feb. 7, 1929 in Plymouth to Clarence and Loretta ADAIR BAKER. She was married to Harry S. HARRIS, Jr. on Aug. 26, 1950; he survives. she was employed as a receptionist for Dr. Don MUSSELMAN, Denver. She was a member of the Chili United Methodist church. Surviving with the husband are three daughters, Mrs. Rebecca IRELAND, Chili; Lisa Kay and Mary Beth [HARRIS], both at home; three sons, Tom Paul [HARRIS], Kokomo; Tony [HARRIS], Anchorage, Alaska, and Peter [HARRIS], at home; two grandchildren, and three sisters, Grace FETTERS, South Bend; Lena HOVIN, Plymouth, and Fern DUNNING, South Bend. Saturday, January 6, 1979 [no obits] Monday, January 8, 1979 Lulu Hughes Thompson Mrs. Lulu (CLARRIDGE) HUGHES THOMPSON, 83, formerly of Argos, died at 6:05 a.m. today in Plymouth Parkview hospital, where she had been a patient for three days. She had resided the last 2 1/2 years at Miller’s Merry Manor nursing home in Plymouth. She was born Fe. 23, 1895 in White county to William and Mary CLARRIDGE. Her first marriage ws to Curtis HUGHES, who died Aug. 25, 1946. Her second marriage was June 10, 1950 to Russell THOMPSON, who died Oct. 31, 1960. She was a 50-yer member of the Argos Eastern Star and later was affiliated with the Plymouth Eastern Star chapter until the time of her death. Several nieces and nephews survive. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Grossman funeral home at Argos with the Rev. Steve FELDER officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo cemetery at Buffalo, Ind. Dale Shaw Word has been received of the death of Dale SHAW, 425 East University street, Bloomington, Sunday morning. Mr. Shaw was a resident of Rochester from June, 1949 to April, 1963 and worked at the Farm Bureau Co-op. Lowell R. Wilson Services for Lowell R. WILSON, 66, Onward, were to be today at 10:30 a.m. in the Fisher funeral home, Logansport. The Rev. Rich DAUGHERTY was to officiate and burial was to be in the Onward cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Cancer Fund. Mr. Wilson died Friday at his residence. He was born Sept. 24, 1912 in Logansport to James H. and Mary Alice WEAVER WILSON. He was married July 10, 1937 in Crown Point to Rose BRUNSWICK, who survives. He was retired from the Penn Central railroad and was a member of the Anoka United Methodist church. He also was a member of the Walton Masonic lodge, the Onward Grange, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and the Coon Hunters club. Surviving with the wife are two sons, James E. [WILSON], Grand View, Ida., and Jerry W. [WILSON], Douglasville, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Lois ABBOTT, Rochester, and Mrs. Carol SNYDER, Logansport; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn NEIL and Mrs. Marjorie SPEITEL, both of Logansport; a brother, Erbin WILSON, Gastonia, N.C., and eight grandchildren. Chester Arnette Services for Chester ARNETTE, 68, Foraker, Ky., were held Jan. 6 in the Dunn and Kelly funeral home in Salyersville, Ky. Burial was in the Courtney Arnette cemetery. Mr. Arnette died Jan. 4 in the Nim Henson Geriatric Center, Jackson, Ky. He was born Dec. 25, 1910 in Foraker, Ky., to Linville and Josie B. MOORE ARNETTE. He was a farmer.
