The chess player still having a perfect score in the rd 3 Indonesian Open Chess Championship after four rounds of play is GM Ivan Ivanisevic (2632) from Serbia. On Saturday 12 October 2013 when two rounds were played, Ivanisevic won, in su ccession, against GM Darwin Laylo (2497) from the Philippines and GM Avetik Grigoryan (2577) from Armenia. As a result Ivanisevic stands alone at the head of the current tournament standings with 4 points! GMs Alexander Moiseenko, Vaibhav Suri, Nigel Short, Vadim Malakhatko, john Paul Gomez, Aleksey Dreev, Gundavaa Bayarsaikhan, and Surya Sekhar Ganguly were therefore joined by GMs Antoaneta Stefanova and Igarza Renier Vazquez who had the only really quick draw and Hoang Thanh Trang who held off Jaan Ehlvest on 2.5/3. On board five GM Ivan Ivanesevic won against GM Darwin Laylo and on board eight the unfancied but very determined GM Avetik Grigoryan stopped giant killing local FM Anjas Novitas to take the lead and will play each other in Round 4. Notable other leading results were GMs Eduardo Iturrizaga beating GM G N Gopal, GM Oliver Barbosa prevailing over IM Denny Juswanto, GM Sandro Mareco proving to good for IM Sadikin Irwanto, GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami edging WGM Tuvshintugs Batchinmeg and Indonesia's No. 1 GM Susanto Megaranto outplaying veteran countryman GM Cerda Barus to move back into contention, also with 2.5/3. So we have two players on 3 and no less than 18 players with 2.5/3 going into round 4 and there are some exciting match-ups that might help determine the final winners! Issue 4 Page 2 3rd Indonesia Open Chess Championship 2013 ROUND FOUR REPORT After four rounds of play, the Indonesian Open Chess Championship (IOCC) 2013 finally has a sole leader. He is GM Ivan Ivanisevic and who proved to be too strong for the popular GM Avetik Grigoryan. So Ivanisevic leads with 4/4 and sharing second to fourth places half a point behind on 3.5/4 are GMs Aleksey Dreev, Surya Shekhar Ganguly and Hoang Thanh Trang who were the only winners from a large pool of 2.5 pointers. Dreev outplayed local hope GM Susanto Megaranto in the endgame after achieving a better pawn structure while Ganguly was simply too strong for GM John Paul Gomez. But the main attention was on the Hoang encounter with GM Oliver Barbosa where the Filipino sacrificed his Queen for a number of active minor pieces and a dangerous looking attack along open files against an exposed King. Hoang however played with great accuracy, combining attack and defence with her Queen and brought home the point. In significant GM encounters, top seeded Alexander Moiseeko managed to win the exchange but Sandro MarEco generated resources to draw while the former student in Ehsan Ghaem Maghami also held the draw against his old teacher in Nigel Short. Vaidhav Suri was happy to use the white pieces to also draw higher rated Eduardo Iturrizaga while it was the same result in the match-ups between Igarza Renier. Vazquez and Gundavaa Bayarsaikhan, and Jan Ehvest and Antoaneta Stefanova. Vladimir Malakhatko came closes to winning against Abhijeet Gupta but the Indian GM was able to liquidate into a drawn Rook ending. With Megaranto losing, the best Indonesian player is again Anjas Novitas who recovered from his first loss against a GM in the third round to beat WGM Elisabeth Paehtz.
