It is again my pleasure to introduce the Festival and invite you to enjoy the many performances which will be taking place not only during the next two weeks but at the end of the month too. The theme of this year’s Festival is ‘Musical Journeys’. The NCMF has featured in the personal musical journeys of many Norfolk people, some of whom have made the return trip to perform for us this year. Annabella Vesela Ellis, Andrew Harsley and Hannah Perowne all played in the NCMF as children and return to delight us with recitals to open and close the Festival. With our centenary year approaching we have begun to broaden our horizons and in addition to the usual range of classes we have arranged a series of recitals spread across the month culminating in the Grand Finale on 28th March. This will feature a selection of the best performances from the Festival in a Gala Concert at the Assembly House, after a similar event proved to be such a success last year. For details of all the extra events on offer this year please pick up a copy of our ‘What’s On Guide’ available at all our venues, in libraries and selected locations in the city. Of course the main objective of the NCMF is to provide an opportunity to perform in front of an audience and receive expert advice from our well qualified and highly experienced adjudicators. I am pleased to be able to say numbers are even higher than last year, with approximately 4600 participants singing and playing in the five venues across the two weeks of the Festival. On the subject of venues we are delighted this year to be using Open as the setting for the ever popular ‘Wind Ensembles and Bands’ evening.
