The Reading Room A temporary resource of artist’s book published by Book Works Thursday 24 November – Sunday 4 December 2005 Including contributions from: Doug Aitken/ Jordan Baseman/ Stuart Brisley/ Pavel Büchler/ Michael Bracewell/ Adam Chodzko/ Nathan Coley/ Tacita Dean/ Jeremy Deller/ Mark Dion/ Yara El-Sherbini/ Liam Gillick/ Thomas Hirshhorn/ Emma Kay/ Janice Kerbal/ Chad McCail/ Jonathan Monk/ Mike Nelson/ Nils Norman/ Elizabeth Price/ Francis Stark/ David Shrigley/ Usman Saeed & Sukhdev Sandhu/ Mark Titchner/ Alison Turnbull/ Lawrence Weiner/ Eva Weinmayr Designed in collaboration with James Lambert and Studio Voltaire, the Project Studio will be transformed into The Reading Room. Established in 1984, Book Works is a leading contemporary arts organisation based in London which commissions and produces new work in full collaboration with artists, whether it be publishing and producing books, multiples, videos, and CD-Roms or realising installations, time-based or performance works or inaugurating discussions. Over a two-week period, visitors will be able to access this unique resource of over 70 artists’ books and special publications produced by Book Works. The Reading Room will also feature a selection of videos, audio works, posters and slide projections. To coincide with The Reading Room, Studio Voltaire will launch A Guide to the Future a new publication made by residents from the local area with playwright Suzy Almond, graphic designer James Lambert and artist Thurle Wright. A Guide to the Future will suggest creative possibilities for the future, including new languages, future fashions and radical technologies. Participating groups include: Collingwood Court Nursing Home, Stockwell Park High School and Kings Avenue Primary School. Supported by Lambeth Arts and Sir John Cass’s Foundation.
