Avaya Solution Interoperability Test Lab Configuring 9600 Series SIP Telephones with Avaya AuraTM Session Manager Release 6.0 and Avaya AuraTM Communication Manager Evolution Server Release 6.0 – Issue 1.0 Abstract These Application Notes describe the configuration of 9600 Series SIP Telephones with Avaya AuraTM Session Manager Release 6.0 supported by Avaya AuraTM Communication Manager Evolution Server Release 6.0. Avaya AuraTM Session Manager provides SIP proxy/routing functionality, routing SIP sessions across a TCP/IP network with centralized routing policies and registrations for SIP endpoints. Avaya AuraTM Communication Manager Evolution Server serves as an Evolution Server within the Avaya Aura™ Session Manager architecture and supports the SIP endpoints registered to Avaya AuraTM Session Manager. These Application Notes provide information for the setup, configuration, and verification of the call flows tested on this solution. Introduction These Application Notes present a sample configuration for a network that uses two Avaya Aura™ Session Managers to support registration of 9600 Series SIP phones. Two Session Managers are deployed so that one Session Manager can serve as backup for the other in case of network or a Session Manager failure. As shown in Figure 1, Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephones configured as SIP endpoints utilize the Avaya Aura™ Session Manager User Registration feature and are supported by Avaya Aura™ Communication Manager Evolution Server. To improve reliability of the configuration, each SIP telephone is registered to both Session Managers. The sample configuration includes Avaya Aura™ Communication Manager Evolution Server supporting SIP users registered to Avaya Aura™ Session Manager. For this configuration, SIP users are not IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) users. Communication Manager Evolution Server is connected to both Session Managers via non-IMS SIP signaling groups and associated SIP trunk groups. Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephones (H.323) and 2420 Digital Telephones are also supported by Avaya AuraTM Communication Manager. Avaya Aura™ Session Manager is managed by Avaya Aura™ System Manager. For the sample configuration, two Avaya Aura™ Session Managers running on separate Avaya S8800 Servers are deployed as a pair of active-active redundant servers. Avaya Aura™ Communication Manager Evolution Server runs on a pair of duplicated Avaya S8800 servers with Avaya G650 Media Gateway. These Application Notes will focus on the configuration of the SIP telephones, SIP trunks and call routing. Detailed administration of other aspects of Communication Manager Evolution Server or Session Manager will not be described (see the appropriate documentation listed in Section 9).
