Most of our undergraduate courses are made up of study units called modules. You’ll be assessed after each module, and the average of all your module assessments for the year is your overall result for that year. Can I pick and choose modules? Yes, to an extent. Some modules are compulsory, so you have to take them. Within that compulsory group are some ‘core’ modules, too. They’re essential to the course (to make sure our degrees qualify for relevant accreditation, for example), so they’ll never change and you have to pass them. That said, some of our modules are optional – so you can pick what you study to suit your interests and career goals. How many modules will I take? Usually, you’ll take six modules a year: three from the start of term to Christmas, and three more between January and the summer.
