November 2016, 16 Uhr c.t. Dr. Shokoufeh Rastgar Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Chemistry Carl Von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg spricht zum Thema: Novel insight to investigate the visible-light-driven water oxidation reaction at polarized liquid-liquid interfaces Abstract: Photo-induced electron transfer across two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) interfaces, with a photosensitizer and quencher located in different liquid phases has been proposed as a model system for natural photosynthesis and heterogeneous photo-catalysis. With the aim of developing new water splitting, i.e. artificial photosynthetic, protocols, liquid/liquid interface represents defect free molecularly soft platform suitable for assembling of nanostructured based semiconductor photocatalysts. Our idea herein is the direct study of O2 evolution by hyperbranched nanocrystaline BiVO4 immobilized at polarized water/organic solvent interface with electron-acceptor compound in organic phase. The photo-electrochemical responses of BiVO4 in charge (hole/electron pair) transport reactions on both phases are studied by Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM) technique. Furthermore, coupling of Liquid/Liquid (L/L) Interface with Surface Interrogation-Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SI-SECM) proposes novel insight to study the photo-induced water oxidation reactions mechanism on BiVO4 based material as visible light-responsive photocatalysts. Herein, SI-SECM is used for the detection, quantification and evaluation of decay kinetics of adsorbed hydroxyl radical (OH•) intermediates generated photochemically at the surface of nanocrystaline BiVO4 substrate. Einladender Prof. Dr. Fritz Scholz PD Dr. Heike Kahlert Vorsitzende des Ortsverbandes der GDCh .
