AND MRS. WILLIAM P. BENTON Since its beginning, Meadow Brook has been blessed with a quality of leader• ship that generates, and expects, success. Mr. and Mrs. William P. Benton, the general chairmen for 1972, are very much a part of this tradition. The organi• zational responsibilities they undertook were manifold, since both Theatre and Festival are in the midst of a dramatic growth process. The Bentons have met all the challenges resulting from this growth, and they have been an inspiration to their dedicated and tireless Executive Committee. The Festival's 1971 season, in which more than 175,000 persons attended 39 concerts, broke all previous records. This success has encouraged Blanche and Bill Benton to call for even greater expansion of the summer program. The new season includes the Festival's first modern dance performances and the addition of a ninth week of symphonic music featuring the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. In all, 43 fine musical evenings are planned for 1972. This is particu• larly impressive when we recall that the Festival's first season, 1964, consisted of twelve concerts over a four-week span. Oakland University and the Meadow Brook Festival are grateful for friends like the Bentons, the 1972 Committee and the Committee members of previous years. There could be no Meadow Brook without them. DONALD D. O'DOWD President, Oakland University 8 THE MEADOW BROOI( COMMITTEES Mr. and Mrs. William P. Benton, General Chairmen Mr. and Mrs. William L.
