Tithing Grants

Tithing Grants Sponsorship: A current registered parishioner of Resurrection, must be the sponsor of any Tithing Grant request. What is Tithing? The word tithe means “tenth”. The practice of tithing is defined as giving away 10 percent of annual income, usually to a church or charitable organization. Source of Funds: At Resurrection, the funds allocated for Tithing Grants come from our parish budget. The Tithing Grant is equal to $1,000 per calendar month, the funds will come from our actual tithing received. The Social Justice Committee will usually distribute grants quarterly: March 1st, June 1st, October 1st and December 1st. Applications must be received by the 15th of the month prior to the respective quarterly distribution date. Types of Organizations: The Social Justice Committee’s goal is to fund organization’s operating at the local, national and international level each time Tithing Grants are allocated. Preference is given to organizations active in these areas: 1. Sanctity of human life and dignity of the person. 2 Call to family, community, and participation and the pursuit of the Common Good. 3 Rights and responsibilities. 4 Preferential option for the poor and vulnerable. 5 Dignity of work. Providing food, shelter, clothing, education and/or health care to the needy Development of economic self-sufficiency Promotion of peace and reconciliation Promotion of the inclusion of diverse peoples as full members of our church and society The Social Justice Committee will give preference to organizations that do not do corporate fundraising. Requests: The range of Tithing Grant request will be $10 - $2,500. The Social Justice Committee will consider larger requests but may have to reduce the amount allocated. Overall, the commission aims to fund as many requests as possible. No tithing Grants will be given to fund salaries, to fund building campaigns or for operational expenses. Each organization will usually be funded only once per year. However, if there is additional money available, the Committee may consider funding an organization twice a year. .
