WASH Semimonthly Bulletin - Syria Early Warning Alert and Response Network Date: 27 Dec 2015 - 9 Jan 2016 Week No. 1-2 Highlights ● This report covers 653 drinking water sources monitored in 8 governorates.The percentages in this report represents only the sources monitored. ● 86% (563/653) of the drinking water sources monitored were function. 14% (90/653) were not functioning. ● In the areas that their stations are suspended, agricultural wells are used as an alternative water source, and tankers are used in water transportation. ● The treated water sources were 26% (145/563), while the operating stations without treatment were 74%(418/563). The monitored drinking water sources in Dar’a and Deir-ez-Zour were all treated, whereas none were treated in Hama and Quneitra. ● Of the functioning water stations, 93% (522/563) delieved water using a piping network and 7% (42/563) delivered water using tankering. ● An environmental problem was reported in Aqrabat which locates in Dana district/Idleb governorate, where sewage drainage coming from camps passes near the wells that are used as water sources in Aqrabat, so it causes water pollution. ● An environmental problem was reported in Namera Tower which locates in Dana district/Idleb governorate, where sewage drainage coming from Dana, Deir Hassan and Sarmada.
