Children’s Message Gospel Lesson John 12:12-19 12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!” 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.” L This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to you, O Christ. 4/5/20 Palm Sunday Mission | Online Worship Page 3 Sermon “We Cry, ‘Hosanna!’” based on John 12:12-19 The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. 4/5/20 Palm Sunday Mission | Online Worship Page 4 We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life T of the world to come. Amen. Hymn of the Day Hosanna, Loud Hosanna | LSB 443 1. Hosanna, loud hosanna, The little children sang; Through pillared court and temple The lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them, Close folded to His breast, The children sang their praises, The simplest and the best. 2. From Olivet they followed Mid an exultant crowd, The victor palm branch waving And chanting clear and loud. The Lord of earth and heaven Rode on in lowly state Nor scorned that little children Should on His bidding wait. 3. “Hosanna in the highest!” That ancient song we sing; For Christ is our Redeemer, The Lord of heav’n our King. Oh, may we ever praise Him With heart and life and voice And in His blissful presence Eternally rejoice! Prayer of the Church 4/5/20 Palm Sunday Mission | Online Worship Page 5 Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Benediction L The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and T give you peace. C Amen. Closing Hymn Ride On, Ride On in Majesty | LSB 441 1. Ride on, ride on in majesty! Hark! All the tribes hosanna cry. O Savior meek, pursue Thy road, With palms and scattered garments strowed. 2. Ride on, ride on in majesty! In lowly pomp ride on to die.
