Home Miss America Parade Set for Saturday, October 22 Miss America Savvy Shields, FHS Graduate in 2013, to Be Honored

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 16, 2016 Welcome Home Miss America Parade Set for Saturday, October 22 Miss America Savvy Shields, FHS Graduate in 2013, to be Honored FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.--Savvy Shields, Miss America 2017 and a 2013 graduate of Fayetteville High School, will be welcomed home to Fayetteville with a parade on Saturday, October 22 at 4 p.m. Savvy won the Miss America Pageant on September 11, 2016 and will spend the coming year traveling the country to present her personal platform to encourage people to embrace lifestyles that contribute to their health, as well as serving as the national goodwill ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Savvy will participate in the "Miss America Welcome Home Parade," which will lead down Dickson Street to the Chi Omega Greek Theatre. There she will make remarks and be joined by Miss Arkansas, Miss Mississippi, Miss South Carolina, Miss Washington, Miss New York, Miss Tennessee, Miss Oklahoma, Miss Alabama, Miss America's Outstanding Teen and Miss Arkansas' Outstanding Teen. FPS Superintendent Dr. Matthew Wendt and Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce Steve Clark will serve as grand marshals for the parade. Students from across the Fayetteville Public Schools will be participating in and attending the parade. Mayor Lioneld Jordan will ride on the traditional Fayetteville Fire Department fire truck in the parade. Savvy is currently a senior art major at the University of Arkansas. She attended Vandergriff Elementary, McNair Middle School, and Woodland Jr. High before graduating from FHS. She is the daughter of Todd and Karen Shields. “Please join us at the parade to honor one of Fayetteville's own, said Dr. Wendt. “Let's line Dickson Street and pack the Greek Theatre to welcome Savvy home!” NOTE: In the event of rain, a celebration will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the FHS Bulldog Arena. ### For more information, contact Alan T.
