POWER FLIRTS WITH NO-HIT BID IN FINALE: Juan Then fired five no-hit innings in his final start of 2019, LAST HOMESTAND (8/30-9/2) while the Power carried a no-hitter through 7.1 innings in a 2-0 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers Monday afternoon, September 2, at Appalachian Power Park. However, the team did secure a winning record at home (38-32) for the fourth SB: 0 SB: 6 time in the last five seasons (2017, 34-36). Conversely, West Virginia ended their road swing with a 31-38 mark, their Defensive Statistics: Defensive Statistics: first losing record on the road since 2016 (31-39). The Power’s 69 wins overall are the eighth-most by a West Virginia W-L: 2-2 W-L: 6-1 squad, while their .496 winning percentage is sixth-worst and their 21.5-game back finish is second-worst all-time ERA: 4.25 ERA: 1.93 (2012, -22.5 GB). The Power missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. GRASSHOPPERS LOTS OF TURNOVER: The Power’s roster saw tons of movement in 2019, as 60 different players suited up for West Virginia this season. Over the last 15 years, 529 professionals have donned a West Virginia uniform and played in at least 6-15 one game for the Power. The team has had four or more All-Stars in a year eight May 23 Charleston 6-5, Loss times in team history. Honeyman was the team’s lone Annual All-Star (third base). He snagged his second Year-End May 24 Charleston 7-5, Loss All-Star selection, as he was named to the Northwest League’s Postseason All-Star squad in 2018. The 2018 29th round selection boasted the best clip in the league (and third-best across all of Class A and July 14 Greensboro 12-9, Loss Class A+ baseball) since July 3, averaging .341 clip (62-for-182) with two homers and 24 RBI. He also had a hit in 38 of July 31 Charleston 5-4, Loss his final 47 games. Honeyman collected his 33rd multi-hit game of the season in the season finale, the most on the team. August 1 Charleston 5-2, Loss August 2 Charleston 8-5, Win SURGING SANDERS: Matt Sanders put together quite the stretch run for West Virginia as well. The infielder hit August 30 Charleston 11-1, Loss August 31 Charleston 3-1, Loss safely in 26 of his last 32 contests and averaged .315 (39-for-124), the sixth-best mark in the SAL in that stretch (July September 1 Charleston 7-3, Win 28-end of season), with four homers and 13 RBI. Sanders tied Onil Pena for the team lead with three homers and led September 2 Charleston 2-0, Win the squad with 11 RBI in the month of August. He was the only active Power hitter to have an average above .300 2018 Results: 3-3 (.302) in the season’s penultimate month.
