The materials supported for Bupsa clinic has been received by Pasang Dawa Sherpa Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), Ms. Kamala Magar, on 6th of July 2020. Similarly, Chairman Tashi Jangbu Sherpa Dr. Kami Temba Sherpa, medical superintendent of Kunde Hospital, handed over Vice-chairman the Covid-19 preventive materials to the chairperson of Pangboche Clinic Pasang Sherpa Lama Management Committee, Mr. Pasang Nuru Sherpa, and health assistant, Ms. Kabita Treasurer th Dr. Mingma Norbu Sherpa Rai, and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), Ms. Pasang Sherpa, on 9 July 2020. The Secretary materials were supported by Himalayan Trust New Zealand. New Staff Member in HTN Mr. Lhakpa Tenji Lama (Sherpa) from Tumbuk (near Junbesi) of Solukhumbu district joined Himalayan Trust Nepal as a Programme Manager effective from 1st August 2020. He holds a Masters in community development and planning in tourism management from Lincoln University, New Zealand under NZAID Scholarship, and Masters in Tourism Studies from Purbanchal University, Nepal. Earlier, he completed his bachelor degree in Education with major in English. He is a graduate of Junbesi Secondary School, one of the Schools Sir Ed built in 1963. Mr. Lama is one of the Himalayan Trust Scholarship recipients. He joined Himalayan Trust Nepal in 2014 as a general member and later contributed at capacity of board member and Joint-Secretary during the period of 2016-2020. During this period, he was actively involved in various activities of HTN. He played a major role in preparing five-year strategic plan of HTN, developed five-year management plan for Khunde Hospital, Junbesi and Khumjung Schools, contributed in project design and proposal development, monitoring and evaluation of the projects, facilitation of various HTN events, and publication of HTN materials. Mr. Lama will be taking the role of Teacher Training Coordinator as a successor of Mr. Mahendra Bahadur Kathet and Mr. Kathet will be working as a part time consultant at the capacity of an Education Advisor. Programme Manager of HTN, Mr. Lhakpa Tenji Lama (Sherpa) A Historic Conference Himalayan Trust Nepal held a virtual meeting with the head teachers and teachers supported by HTN in the Solukhumbu schools on 24th August 2020. The objective of the meeting was to explore the field situation and possibilities for the improvement of students’ learning activities during the lockdown and pandemic situation. It was a historic conference reaching most corners of Solukhumbu. A total of 10 head teachers, 18 subject teachers, along with the HTN team, participated in the meeting. A virtual meeting held with head teachers and HTN supported teachers of Solukhumbu schools. th 13 AGM of HTN Conducted The 13th Annual General Meeting of HTN has been conducted on 28th of August 2020 through the Zoom considering the current pandemic and lockdown situation. The meeting was a grand success with incredible participation of board members, general members, honorary member and staff of HTN. 13th AGM of HTN held through Zoom meeting on 28th August 2020. Honorary Lifetime Patron and Honorary Membership Awarded The 13th Annual General Meeting of HTN approved the decision of awarding honorary lifetime patron and honorary membership to the following respected, distinguished and dear friends of Sir Edmund Hillary. Honorary lifetime patron: 1. Lady June Hillary 2. Dr. Mike Gill 3. Zeke O'Connor 4. Richard Blum 5. Larry Witherbee Honorary members: 1. Dr. John McKinnon, the first volunteer doctor of Khunde Hospital 2. Karen O'Connor Changes in the Board of HTN The election of HTN board which was supposed to be held this year at the AGM was postponed and extended for a year till the next AGM which is going to be held next year due to the current pandemic situation and uncertainty. The AGM then decided to promote board member, Ms. Yangji Doma Sherpa to the post of Joint-Secretary and general member, Dr. Nima Namgyal Sherpa to the post of a board member. The post of Joint Secretary was vacant after the resignation by Mr. Lhakpa Tenji Lama due to his personal reasons. Ms. Yangji Doma Sherpa Dr. Nima Namgyal Sherpa Medicine Support to Phaplu Hospital Himalayan Trust Nepal procured and delivered medicines and hospital supplies worth of Rs. 1.1 million to the chairman of Phaplu Hospital Management Board, Mr. Bir Kumar Rai on 6th September 2020. HTN’s District Representative, Mr. Nava Bahadur Bhujel ,handed over the medicines to the hospital board chairman and hospital incharge Ms. Sani Sherpa. The handing over function was attended by the legislative member, Mr. Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari, MDGP doctor Dilip Kumar Shah and Deputy Mayor of Solududhkunda Municipality, Mrs. Kalpana Rai at Phaplu Hospital. The medicines have been supported by the Sir Edmund Hillary Stiftung Germany. HTN representative, Mr. Nava Bahadur Bhujel, handed over the medicines to Phaplu Hospital in the presence of local government representatives. Thame Hostel Handed Over The hostel construction project at Thame School has been completed and handed over to the School th Management Committee on 29 of August 2020. Thame Rinpoche, his teacher, and supervisor performed the consecration puja for the hostel. The function was attended by village leaders, advisors, SMC members and local government representatives. Dr. Kami Temba Sherpa, Engineer Mr. Bijay Shrestha and Field Supervisor Mr. Dipu Sherpa handed over the hostel key to the SMC chair. The hostel was jointly funded by Thame Sherpa Heritage Fund and American Himalayan Foundation. Currently, 13 students are staying at the hostel along with a caretaker and a cook. Covid-19 Preventive Materials Supported to DPO Himalayan Trust Nepal supported Covid-19 preventive materials to the District Police Office of Solukhumbu. The supported materials included face shields, thermal gun, hand sanitizer and surgical masks. The procurement of the preventive materials was supported by the Himalayan Trust New Zealand. HTN representative Nava handed over the Covid-19 preventive materials to District Police Office Solukhumbu. Covid-19 Preventive Materials Supported to Solududhkunda Municipality Himalayan Trust Nepal supported Covid-19 preventive materials to Solududhkunda Municipality and the materials were handed over on 7th September 2020. The supported materials included hand sanitizers and surgical masks to be distributed to the clinics operated and managed by the municipality in the Solu region. The procurement of the preventive materials was supported by Himalayan Trust New Zealand. HTN representative, Mr. Nava Bahadur Bhujel handed over the HTN supported Covid-19 preventive materials to Solududhkunda Municipality. Monjo Community Water and Fire Hydrant Project The Monjo Community Water and Fire Hydrant Project at Monjo and Chumoa villages is progressing well. Two reserve tanks are under construction and pipes have been placed over the river crossings. The project is intended to complete by November 2020. A Schoolhouse in the Clouds Sir Ed Visitor Center The renovation of the first-ever school block built out of aluminium into a Sir Ed Memorial Visitor Center is progressing well. HTN appointed field supervisor Mr. Dipu Sherpa is leading the project at the site. A user group comprising of local leaders, knowledgeable persons, school management committee representatives has been formed to oversee the overall project. The renovation part of the project is expected to conclude by October 2020. The renovation work of Schoolhouse in the Clouds Sir Ed Visitor Center progressing well.
