Daryl K. “Doc” Seaman passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009. He was 86. Mr. Seaman was one of the original six owners and was instrumental in purchasing and bringing the Atlanta Flames and the National Hockey League to Calgary in 1980. His brother Byron, Ralph T. Scurfield, Norm Green, Normie Kwong and Harley Hotchkiss were also among the first owners. “I’ve lost a dear friend of 55 years and I have lost the best partner a man could have,” said fellow Flames owner, lifetime Daryl K. Seaman friend and business associate Hotchkiss. 1922 - 2009 “People should know that the Flames were Doc’s initiative and Doc’s idea. There would have been no Flames in Calgary were it not for Doc. Those who care about our team and the game owe him a debt of gratitude.” “If anyone is looking for inspiration or a hero, they can stop looking. Doc Seaman should be the choice,” said Ken King, President and CEO of the Flames. “Doc was a great visionary about the game and everything that applies to sport and life. He knew and appreciated the Canadian value of hockey, the tradition of the game and what’s important. He was always our rock,” noted Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter. Mr. Seaman was born in Rouleau, Saskatchewan. At the time of his passing he was Chairman and President of Dox Investments Inc, a director of a number of public companies and an active supporter of several local charities and community projects. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He received two honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from U of S and University of Calgary. He also received the Rotary International’s Paul Harris Fellowship Award and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. Mr. Seaman served as a RCAF World War II pilot for five years with extensive tours in England, North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Other achievements include a Governor General’s appointment to the Royal Commission on Economic Union and Development Prospects for Canada from 1982 to 1985. He was awarded the Assocation of Professional Engineers’ Frank Spragins Award and the McGill University Management Achievement Award. In 1987, he was made a life member of the Associaton of Professional Engineers of Alberta. He was also inducted into the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Industry Hall of Fame in 1989. In 1994, he sponsored the D.K. Seaman Chair in Technical and Professional Communication at U of S. In 1997, he was inducted into the Canadian Oilmen’s Hall of Fame. In 2001, he was made an honorary regent of the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame and received the Humanitarian Award. In 2004, he was inducted into the Calgary Business Hall of Fame. Besides the Flames, Mr. Seaman’s hockey experience includes the Notre Dame Hounds at Wilcox and the Moose Jaw Canucks. Additionally, he was an original Governor of the Hockey Canada Foundation. On June 1, 2007, he was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame together with his brother Byron and Harley Hotchkiss, as builders who brought the Flames from Atlanta to Calgary in 1980. 2 CALGARY FLAMES th CALGARY FLAMES 30 ANNIVERSARY SEASON MEMBER OF THE NHL FOR 37 SEASONS Flames Directory . 4 Flames All-Time Records - Home and Road . .228 Media Guidelines Summary . 5 Flames Overtime Results . .229-230 History of the Franchise . .6-7 Flames Month by Month Results . .231 Owners’ Biographies . .8-10 Home Attendance/Opening Game . .232 Ken King . 11 Flames - Yearly Leaders . .233 Darryl Sutter . .12-13 Flames - Penalty Shots . 233-234 Hockey Club Personnel . .14-21 Flames All-Time Leaders . .235-236 Hockey Club Office Staff . 22 Flames All-Time Top Seasons . .237-238 Hockey Hall of Fame . .23-24 Flames Career Scoring . .239-243 Flames All-Star Selections . 25 Flames Career Goaltenders . .244 Flames All-Time Trophy Winners . 26 Flames Lifetime Shutouts . .245-246 Flames Foundation/Community Relations . 27-29 Flames Home & Road vs NHL . .247-248 McCaig Award & Scurfield Award . 30 Flames All-Time Team Records . 249-250 2009-10 Player Profiles . 31-104 Flames All-Time Individual Records . 251-252 In the System . 105-128 Playoff Records . .253 2009 Training Camp Roster . .129 2009 Flames Playoff Scoring . .254 NHL 2009 Entry Draft . 130-133 2009 Playoffs Flames VS . .255 GM/Coaches . .134 All-Time Flames vs other teams . .256 Captains/1000th Game . .135 Flames All-Time Playoff Games . 257-258 Flames Year-by-Year Results . 136-165 Flames Playoff All-Time Leaders . .259-260 Years in Atlanta . .166 Flames Playoff Team Records . .261-266 Game-by-Game Results . .167-179 Flames Playoff Individual Records . 266-269 Game-by-Game Legend . .179 Flames All-Time Playoff Series Record . .270 2008-09 Results . .180 Flames All-Time Roster . 271-279 NHL Stats 2008-09 . .181-182 Flames All-Time Sweater Numbers . 280-284 Flames Highs & Lows . 183-186 2009-10 NHL On-Ice Officials . .285 Flames 2008-09 Team Scoring . .187 Abbotsford Heat . .286 Flames 2008-09 Individual Goals . .188 Abbotsford Heat 2009-10 Scoring Breakdown . .189-190 Regular Season Schedule . .287 Flames 2008-09 Overall Results . .191-192 Quad City Flames 2008-09 Scoring . .288 Flames Home Results/Road Results . 193-194 Calgary Hitmen . .289 2009 Stanley Cup Results/Divisional Alignment . .195 Calgary Hitmen 2009-10 Season Schedule . .290 Flames vs .
