The Detroit rapper-turned- Hollywood actor is launching a new young men’s clothing line, dubbed Shady Limited, at Macy’s Department Stores. Macy’s West will debut the fall collection in 90 stores in July, just in time for back-to-school shopping. Shady, so named for the rapper’s notorious alter ego Slim Shady, features denim jeans, fleece hoodies, novelty knits, jerseys, hats and short-sleeve woven shirts. Prices range from about $28 for T-shirts to $160 for velour sets. Based on the clothing line’s limited release at Macy’s stores in May, Shady has proven to be a hit with male fans of the artist’s music. Eminem’s clothing venture is the most recent in a trend of musician-sponsored apparel: P. Diddy has Sean John, Russell Simmons has Phat Farm, Jennifer Lopez has J. Lo, and Jay Z has Rocawear. Like his counterparts, Eminem has a hands-on role in designing for his clothing line and ensuring his personal style is reflected in the merchandise. Shady capitalizes on the outspoken star’s raging popularity, which can be traced to his Grammy® Award-winning albums, including The Eminem Show, and his Hollywood blockbuster 8 Mile and accompanying soundtrack. Besides Eminem himself, spokes-models for the line include 8 Mile costars Omar Miller (Sol George) and Evan Jones (Cheddar Bob). Music artists from Eminem’s Shady Records label, like 50 Cent, also have been seen wearing the brand.
