FINANCE Annexure-I 37 Annexure-II 38 Annexure-III 39 1 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR Joint Entrance Test for admission to FTII, Pune & SRFTI, Kolkata • For the first time ever, admissions to Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) Kolkata both institutes under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India were taken on the basis of a Joint Entrance Test (JET) • JET was held on 18.2.2018 at 21 centres across the country. Tests were conducted for Film and TV courses in both institutes. • The application process was online and the number of seats offered by each institute in each of the specializations was declared on the JET Portal in December 2017. Democratising Film Education - SKIFT Initiative • Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune started short-term courses to provide affordable and accessible quality cinema literacy across the country by a new initiative Skilling India in Film and Television (SKIFT) in association with State Governments/ Universities/ Educational Institutes. • The SKIFT initiative kick-started in May 2017 with the following short courses in Mumbai: • Foundation Course in Screen Acting • Foundation Course in Screenplay Writing • Film Appreciation • 45 courses like Film Appreciation, Screen Acting, Screenplay Writing, Digital Cinematography and Fiction Writing for Television were conducted. 2430 participants were trained. FTII Student Film- Only Indian entry in Cannes Film Festival FTII Dialogue Film Afternoon Clouds directed by Ms. Payal Kapadia was selected for screening in Cannes Film Festival 2017, the only Indian entry. 2 National Film Award for FTII film TV wing final fiction film Kalpvriksha directed by Mr. Abhijeet Khuman bagged the prestigious RAJAT KAMAL for BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY to electronic cinematography student Mr. Alpesh Nagar in Non-Feature film category. The award consists of RAJAT KAMAL and cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- for the mysterious beauty of the narrative comes alive through artful camerawork.” A 5 month Writing for Television Fiction course started in Campus in July 2017, a first of its kind course in India catering to industry's growing need for long format story telling. A 3 month VFX (Visual Effects) and Finishing course (18.09.2017 to 08.12.2017) designed to meet industry requirements in fundamentals of VFX for television and films was conducted. 15 days (09.12.2017 to 23.12.2017) Winter edition of full time Film Appreciation course was held for the first time, in assocation with NFAI. 3 FTII launched the first ever Weekend Film Appreciation courses at Pune & Delhi : The first ever Weekend Film Appreciation courses aimed at Film Appreciation for working professionals: Both courses were spread over 5 weekends (Saturday – Sunday) from 28.10.2017 – 26.11.2017. In FTII Campus more than 170 participants enrolled for the course. In New Delhi, more than 120 participants enrolled for the course. FTII organised on campus workshops for children during Diwali vacations : 7 days Basic Filmmaking Workshop was organised between 10-16 October 2017 and 23- 29 October 2017 with 26 students in age group of 10-16 years. 15 days Basic Acting Workshop was organised from 13th -28th October 2017 for two age groups 7-10 years and 11-15 years with 20 participants. 4 Improving Outreach: FTII Open Days • FTII held Open Days on September 23rd and September 24th, 2017 with conducted tours as part of initiative to enable people to know filmmaking processes, infrastructure and rich legacy of the institute. With over 2000 visitors facilitated by FTII staff and faculty helped in building bridges with the community in Pune. FTII's first Digital Cinematography Short Course in India was conducted in Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands) from 12.07.2017-03.08.2017. This 3-week foundation course under the SKIFT initiative had 24 participants. • A Film Appreciation (FA) course, the first of its kind ever in the Kashmir valley, was conducted in Srinagar. The 5-day programme in association with Media Education Research Centre (MERC) of University of Kashmir had over 100 participants on the fundamentals of watching and understanding films and broaden the horizons of their cinematic experience. 5 V K Murthy Festival at FTII On the third death anniversary of Shri V. K. Murthy, luminary and a legendary Cinematographer of Indian Cinema, a 3 day Festival was organised from 7th-9th April, 2017. Shri V K Murthy, awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2008, is known for his mesmerizing black-and white cinematography for Guru Dutt films like Aar-Paar, Pyasa and colour films like Shikar, Love in Tokyo, Jugnu and many more. 6 FTII launched PADAARPAN: MOMENTOUS MILESTONES, monthly public screening of FTII student's films on 5th August 2017 • Under this initiative, old and new films of former and present students of FTII were screened to give an opportunity to general public to see and appreciate works of FTII students. • The initiative was inaugurated by Shri. Shatrughan Sinha, MP and FTII alumnus. His film "An angry young man" was also screened in six film package. • FTII organised 2nd edition of “PADAARPAN – Momentous Milestones”, screenings of FTII student's Diploma films and project films on 16th September 2017. The event featured noted film and television actor and FTII alumni Shri. Rakesh Bedi's film “End of the Game” in which Shri Bedi acted in 1976 as FTII student. • FTII organised the 3rd edition of PADAARPAN on 28th October 2017. The event featured noted film and television actor and FTII alumni Ms Rameshwari. 7 "GURU VANDANA" and Release of Autobiography of Acting Guru Shri. Roshan Taneja's of "MOMENTS OF TRUTH: MY LIFE WITH ACTING"- It was 'walking down memory lane' moment on 3rd June, 2017 in FTII when over 20 yesteryear actors (Rita Bhaduri, Zarina Wahab, Satish Shah, Mukesh Khanna, Raza Murad, Anil Dhawan, Chander Mohan Khanna, Adil Aman, Benjamin Gilani, Rakesh Bedi, Rama Vij, Rameshwari & Kanwaljeet Singh) & students of legendary acting guru Shri. Roshan Taneja came together for the release of Shri Taneja's much-awaited autobiography MOMENTS OF TRUTH:MY LIFE WITH ACTING. This special event was organised to honour Shri Roshan Taneja, who was associated with FTII from 1963 and served as Head of Department of Acting of the Institute from 1966 to 1978. 8 FTII remembered late Hrishikesh Mukherjee on his 95th birthday through ’Smarananjali’. The event featuring screenings of his films and discussions about his body of work was inaugurated by acclaimed filmmaker and FTII alumnus, Shri Kundan Shah on 30th September 2017 at Main Theater of FTII. The event also featured Shri Mehboob Khan Ex-Dean FTII, Shri Yogesh Mathur Ex-HOD, Editing, FTII who shared their thoughts about the iconic film editor and filmmaker. 9 Awards for FTII Student films: 'Afternoon Clouds'' directed by Ms. Payal Kapadia was awarded best graduate film in 21st LUNARTIS International Video Festival VIDEOMEDEJA, Serbia for both technical and artistic quality of film-making. This film was selected for screening in 5th EKADESHMA International Short Film Festival, Nepal and was invited in 12th edition Festival International de Cinema Feminino, Women's Film Festival FEMINA, Brazil, 2017. FTII TV student Final Fiction film Andhere Mein directed by Mr. Vijaya Singh was awarded SPECIAL MENTION for Shortfilm at the 16th edition of Imagineindia International Film Festival, Madrid, Spain, 2017. The workshop by FTII alumnus Ms Arunaraje Patil, National Award winning filmmaker and motivational speaker had the objective to empower participants to focus on what was important to them and to create and nurture relationships. Presentation of Plays "Mahapur" and “Rakta Pushpa” by FTII Acting Department students • The Acting Department students (2016 batch) of FTII presented the play "Mahapur" (Deluge) by acclaimed Playwright Shri Satish Alekar, and “Rakta Pushpa” by acclaimed playwright Shri Mahesh Elkunchwar. The plays were directed by well- known Theatre Director Aniruddha Khutwad. On this occasion, FTII felicitated Shri Alekar for his contribution to Theatre. Independence Day celebrations: • The Flag Hoisting Ceremony on the occasion of the 71st Independence Day of India was held at the Film and Television Institute of India.
