BACKGROUNDER Biker Enforcement Unit (BEU) The BEU is a joint forces unit led by the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and works collaboratively with other police services and law enforcement agencies to disrupt and dismantle organized crime groups to ensure safer communities for all Ontarians. Through collaboration with national, international, provincial and municipal agencies, BEU conducts training, multi-jurisdictional investigations and enforcement projects to curtail the organized crime activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs. The BEU is comprised of 23 partner agencies, including the Barrie Police Service, Brantford Police Service, Belleville Police Service, Cornwall Police Service, Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario, Durham Regional Police Service, Greater Sudbury Police Service, Halton Regional Police Service, Hamilton Police Service, Kingston Police Service, London Police Service, Niagara Regional Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Ottawa Police Service, Peel Regional Police, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Stratford Police Service, Thunder Bay Police Service, Toronto Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police Service, Peterborough Police Service, Woodstock Police Service and York Regional Police. Mandate of the Biker Enforcement Unit Gather intelligence and evidence on substantive criminal offences to support prosecutions under Bill C-24 and amendments to the Criminal Code relating to "Criminal Organizations"; To serve in an expert resource capacity to assist law enforcement investigations in Ontario, throughout Canada and internationally; Provide training for front-line police officers, stakeholders and Crown Attorneys; Provide "expert" testimony at judicial court proceedings; Create an efficiency in the way policing resources are utilized, by maximizing the collective law enforcement efforts against Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMG) in the Province of Ontario; Provide a leadership role in Canada by implementing and supporting the National Strategy on OMG Enforcement in the Province of Ontario; and Conduct investigations into the illegal activities of OMG, with a focus toward criminal enforcement, as well as asset forfeiture and seizure.
