Tokyo Disney Resort: Guide Sheet Introduction Location: Tokyo, Japan. Approximately 60 minutes west of Narita International Airport, or 20 minutes east of Central Tokyo on the JR line – alight at Maihama Station. It is Tokyo Disney Resort’s equivalent of Downtown Disney. There are also a number of Good Neighbour Hotels located close to the resort with complimentary shuttle bus service. Must see attractions (Tokyo Disneyland) Adventureland Pirates of the Caribbean – classic attraction Jungle Cruise – laugh along with the jokes – all in Japanese! The Enchanted Tiki Room (with a Stitch theme) Western River Railroad – no stops, but it includes the Grand Canyon dinosaurs. It’s A Small World Assorted classic Fantasyland rides Toontown Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin Tomorrowland Star Tours (reopening in May 2013 as Star Tours: The Adventures Continue) Space Mountain (rollercoaster in the dark) Buzz Lightyear’s Astroblasters Monsters Inc. Ride and Go Seek World Bazaar World Bazaar is Tokyo Disneyland’s equivalent of Main Street USA in the other parks. It features shopping and dining for all ages and price limits! Live Shows Tokyo Disneyland and Disneysea is home to some of the best live entertainment in any Disney park. In fact, some of the shows are so popular, that you have to enter a daily lottery just to see them at certain times of the year! Of course, this can end in disappointment for some visitors (especially those of us visiting from overseas who can’t get there very often). One Man’s Dream II – this is a large stage production that chronicles some of Walt Disney’s great creations. You may need to enter the lottery to see this show. Minnie Oh Minnie – stage show with a Mardi Gras theme in New Orleans Square. Super Duper Jumping Time – fun puppet show for all ages featuring the Fab Five and Chip ‘n Dale, controlling puppets of themselves! Must see attractions (Tokyo Disneysea) Mediterranean Harbour Fortress Explorations - spend time exploring each room of the fortress. Great fun on those busy days where the lines are long and you are waiting for your Fastpass time! Disney Sea Transit Steamer Line (ride the boat for a full loop of the park) Venetian Gondolas – take a romantic journey into Mediterranean Harbor – don’t forget to sing! The Legend of Mythica - daytime water spectacular which is not to be missed! Fantasmic – Tokyo’s version of the classic nighttime water spectacular! American Waterfront Tower of Terror – great ride with a theme unique to Tokyo Toy Story Mania – opened in 2012 so expect big queues! Port Discovery Stormrider – large Imax-style motion theatre ride Aquatopia – ride on futuristic and trackless water vehicles Lost River Delta Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull – similar to Anaheim’s Indy – don’t miss it! Raging Spirits – rugged coaster with a loop Arabian Coast Sindbad’s Seven Voyages – fun boat ride similar to small world but less annoying! The Magic Lamp Theatre – 3D movie featuring the Genie from Aladdin Mysterious Island Journey to the Centre of the Earth – this is Tokyo Disneyland’s signature E-ticket ride based on Test Track technology – you have to ride it to believe it! 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea – wonderful ride that takes you under the sea where you encounter many perils Mermaid Lagoon Mermaid Lagoon Theatre – Little Mermaid Show Explore all the areas in Mermaid Lagoon, it is aimed at the kids, but we find it spectacular anyway! Transport to and from the Resort There is a bus service running from Narita to the resort area each day and tickets can be bought on arrival at the airport from the Airport Limousine counter. Note that the last bus to the resort leaves the airport around 5:40pm – this is very inconvenient if your flight arrives late! There are a number of alternatives: Taxi - very expensive (around $200AUD) but will get you to where you want to go. Train – cheap, however it is not easy if you’ve never been to Tokyo before and used the subways. You will also have to carry your bags on a potentially crowded train. Limousine bus to Shin-Urayasu hotel area then taxi to Disney. The Limousine buses to Shin-Urayasu continue to operate until around 8:40pm. Shin-Urayasu is just a short distance to Disney (around 5 klms away). From there, you can easily pick up a taxi to take you direct to your Disney area hotel. At the Limousine bus counter, just ask for with the Brighton Hotel, or Oriental Hotel in Shin-Urayasu. Cost is around $25 per person. To return to the airport, you can book the limousine bus through your hotel bell desk. Weather and time to go Summer in Japan can be very hot and oppressively humid. Winters are cold and clear, but can also bring snow to the Disney Resort. Be aware of Golden Week around the end of April – this is the Japanese national holiday week and is very crowded. Early May is also a good time to visit as Golden Week has finished and the weather is warmer without the oppressive humidity that comes from June-September.
