Regardless, it was a very enjoyable weekend with the Thames River members putting in a lot of effort, to make sure we had a good time. The ‘bring your own BBQ’ on Saturday evening worked out very well, and a live band was provided to encourage dancing on the gravel. Sunday, Al put on one of his famous TRYC dinners which was excellent. Games for the young and old were provided, but SPSC failed to come out winners. Good effort by Tim Asletine and Allen Shearn ! Maybe next year after some bocce ball practice they will be champions. Jackie Timothy won the portable BBQ in the raffle. Monday morning breakfast, was once again provided by Grosse Point Yacht Club members, a great group of people. Congratulations Mo Regnier & Fanny Waters who were married August 29, 2009 Looking ahead to Club Racing 2010 from The Race Chair, Brad Roy As posted under racing in the SPSC forum As always, lack of participation was an issue again this season. We will entertain a cruising class club race night if there is sufficient interest. In addition, we have once again had inquiries from outside the club about racing on evenings other than Wednesdays. This should be seriously considered for the 2010 racing season, as it is clear that in spite of great efforts by previous race committees, interest in racing from SPSC’s membership is declining. There will be no improvement in participation without implementing some changes. Please submit your comments under ‘racing’ in the forum on the website and give me your comments and/or questions. www.southportsailingclub.com Einstein’s definition of insanity : “To do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result “ Pg 4 October 2009 Soundings 5 Club 420’s Year end at The Sailing School from Renka Gesing On Saturday September 12, Darcy Fuller, head sailing instructor, came up with a great idea to put the sailing school 420s away, after a successful season for both the sailing school and Tuesday night dinghy racing. The entry fee for the first annual de-rigging regatta ? De-rig and store the 420 you use. The event took place, on a beautiful sunny day with medium winds. Many thanks to Jason Turpin who ran the races and the Tuesday night race committee all season.
