Her parents were Charles and Joane Sonibanke. She died at All Saints at Oxford in 1673. In her will she wished ‘to be buried at St Andrews Holborn, where her husband and five of her children are’ (the National Burial Index shows that a Mary ‘Hickmutte’ and a John Hickmott were buried at New Windsor in Berkshire on 30 April 1639 and 2 March 1642 respectively). Joane left the family’s estates to her only sister Elizabeth Longbaine, then a widow of Oxford. Sums of money were left to a number of nephews including Nathaniel and Thomas Chiles/Chyles. John’s will, proven in 1657, states he was a gentleman then living at Clifford’s Inn in London. He and 6 Joan were the freehold owners of Hartley Manor Farm (then called Daltons, later Hartley Wood Farm) at Hartley south of Cranbrook in Kent. They also had lands and tenements at Staplehurst and Aylesford in Kent, Mersham in Surrey, Cuddesdon near Oxford, High Onger in Essex, and St Andrews at Holborn in Middlesex. John left his estate to the couple’s only son, Charles, who was born in around 1646 and died in 1668 while he was at Oxford. It seems that prior to his death, Charles may have married Mary Smith, the daughter of John Smith, at New Wickham in 1665 (see below).
