Peay, a 1962 graduate of the Institute, has served on several Institute VMI Board boards over the years. Williams Adjutant General of Virginia Blackstone, Virginia 2 Virginia Military Institute | Women's Soccer 2003 VMI Athletic Director Donny White onny White has seen his vision for VMI athletics take shape in his five years as athletic director. No where was that more evident than the recent D2002-03 year when the VMI athletic teams improved their overall winning percentage to the highest level in nearly a decade. Committed to athletic success on the field as well as off, White made a bold move by Athletic Staff shifting VMI’s athletic conference affiliation from the Southern ADMINISTRATION & SUPPORT STAFF Conference, a home to VMI sports Donny White for 78 years, to the Big South Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Conference. The Keydets will begin Dennis Toney play in the new league home this Assistant A.D./ Marketing & Compliance year. Scott Davis Assistant A.D./ Administration Conference affiliation is just one issue that White has tackled Claudia Pirkle since taking over as AD in 1998. Upon his return, White immediately Senior Woman’s Administrator/ went to work addressing the challenging issues facing the VMI athletic Academic Advisor department. At the same time, he has built support for intercollegiate Andrew Westhouse athletics among the VMI community and its alumni. His effort has Ticket Manager Karlyos Hayslett resulted in capitol improvements, increased funding for operations, the Equipment Manager development of women’s athletics, and a better overall competitive Jimmy Mason environment for VMI sports. Asst. Equipment Manager White returned to the Institute on Apr. 22, 1998, after serving six Judy Cash successful years as athletic director at Patrick Henry High School in Secretary Jimmy Coale, C.S.C.S. Ashland, Va. White guided the school’s athletic program to unprecedent- Strength & Conditioning Coach ed achievement both on and off the field and led the efforts to improve Richard Levy funding and facilities for the school’s athletic program. Asst. Head Strength & Conditioning Coach White compiled a distinguished VMI coaching career in two sports spanning 15 years. He joined the football staff of Bob Thalman in SPORTS INFORMATION Wade Branner 1971 as a defensive backfield coach and helped lead the Keydets to two Sports Information Director Southern Conference Championships and a State Championship in 1977. Assistant A.D./ Media Relations White coached the defensive backs to a number one national ranking in Andy Krauss 1975 and number four ranking the following season. Assistant Sports Information Director In the fall of 1981, White became VMI head baseball coach. While Ted Leshinski Sports Information Intern serving as baseball coach, White also taught on the Physical Education staff as an assistant professor. SPORTS MEDICINE White entered private business in 1987, but returned to the full- Lance Fujiwara, M.S., ATC time athletic ranks in 1992 when he accepted the athletic director Director of Sports Medicine postion at Patrick Henry. The football program reached the ranks of the Assistant Athletic Director Chris Smith, M.S., ATC state’s elite, winning 57 of 65 games, five district titles, four regional titles, Assistant Athletic Trainer a state runner-up trophy, and the state AAA, Division 5 championship in John Hoffman, M.S., ATC 1994. Assistant Athletic Trainer White is a 1965 graduate of VMI with a B.S. degree in civil engineering.
