Each year may have different numbers as recipients must qualify academically and must come from families with less than a $49,000 annual income. Recipients will receive a minimum of $500 a year that may go as high as $2500 and could even be eligible for one of five scholarships worth $5000. In a letter to President-Elect John J Foley, Wholley said, as a general rule in the United States, “Perpetual scholar- ships are awarded using the “five per cent rule.” He went on to explain that a $10,000 bequest ordinarily means the disbursement of $500 a year, but the MCSF is able sometimes to increase that amount from other funds.
