Pre-K Program Frequently Asked Questions Can I pay for my child to attend Pre-K? No. We do not provide a tuition based program. Can I apply for Pre-K on site at Petal Primary School? No. The Pre-K application is only available online. You must have a google email to complete application. Can my child attend Pre-K at the age of five if I choose to start him/her in Kindergarten at six? No. Only four-year-old children may participate in the Petal Primary School Pre-K. Can my child sign up for Pre-K if I currently live outside the district but plan to move there soon? No. You must live in the Petal School District at the time of requesting enrollment in the Pre-K program to qualify. How are students selected for Pre-K? The general education students will be chosen based on a universal screener. All students will be given an early learning screener. The general education students will serve as peer models for students with disabilities. The IEP committees will meet on each four year old with a special education eligibility to determine which students would benefit from participation in the program and develop specific IEP goals based on the needs of the students. How many students are accepted into the Pre-K program? Our Pre-K program is limited to 20 students. 40-50% must have an IEP and 50-60% must be general education students. Is it possible that he/she might still get in? Yes, Petal Primary Pre-K maintains a waiting list throughout the school year and will fill slots as they become available. What are the hours of the Pre-K program? The Pre-K will follow normal school hours. Our doors open at 7:00am and we start dismissal around 2:15pm. What can I expect on the interview/screening day? Teachers screen all students who apply for the Pre-K at Petal Primary. Parents and guardians bring their children to the school and wait while teachers assess the children.
