Awards, Medals and their associated Emblems has prompted us to try and bring all the information together in a single document. Gallantry awards In Scouting for Boys Part 1 the founder Baden-Powell wrote about Scout Medals Bronze Medal with a red Ribbon; For Gallantry in Saving Life, attempting to save life at risk of own Silver Medal with red Ribbon; for saving and helping to save life, without risk of own life, but where life might have been lost Silver Medal with Blue Ribbon; Meritorious service, or assisting police at personal risk However it was not till a year later that the medals were launched. In a slightly differing scheme to the original The Bronze Cross (formerly the Bronze Medal) Dates of issue Design Awarded for: Citation Ribbon 1909 -1917 POR 1911. The highest possible "For Saving Life" Red Ribbon 1 1/4" wide award for gallantry. It can only be won where the claimant has shown considerable heroism or has faced extraordinary risks in saving life. POR 1915. Scoutmasters and all Warrant ranks junior to them and Scouts are eligible for the Bronze Cross. POR 1918. All Scout Officers, Scouts
