UF holds its fair share of the national spotlight too, as media outlets such as ESPN, USA Today and Sports Illustrated track the progress of not only the nationally ranked football team, but also the careers of the many Gator world-class athletes. Lo- cally, more than dozen media outlets regularly cover the Gators. In addition to daily coverage from the local media, many of the state’s larger papers such as the Orlando Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, Miami Herald, Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, Florida Times Union and the Tampa Bay Times cover the Gator teams. The UF Communications Department also helps student-athletes’ home- town media follow the careers of Gators from their area. ESPN AND THE SEC: BRING CONFERENCE ACTION TO THE NATION The SEC Network’s debut in August 2014 brought 24/7 coverage of Southeastern Conference sports on the cable channel.
