The profession of family and consumer sciences has long been a part of discussions and reform initiatives. In fact, since the inception of family and consumer sciences as a profession, professionals in the field have participated in meetings and conferences contributing to discussions that led to significant changes that advanced the field. The participation in educational reform and initiatives yielded the National Standards for Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (2004) published by the National Association of Teacher Educators for Family and Consumer Sciences (NATEFACS).
