Electronic Version ESDO News Letter COVID-19 Response Year : 4 Issue : 3-5 March-May 2020 ESDO’s COVID-19 Response at a glance Programmatic interventions in response to COVID-19 The whole world is now fighting against the unseen soldier, Corona virus. Its creates an in-humiliation pandemic that cross all of the previous one and world have never been seen this types of pandemic in before. According to WHO, Bangladesh is highly riskable country for COVID 19 pandemic due to its population density, lack of medical facilities and most important things- lack of awareness knowledge among the community peoples. When first COVID 19 patients was found, from that time, ESDO has been starting awareness at community level within it’s working area. Now ESDO have selected a set of programme interventions for this COVID 19 response. Firstly, ESDO is trying to aware community people for practicing WHO recommended hand washing procedures. Secondly, we are staring deinfection of various place including bazzar, localities, wards through sprying blichin powder mixing water. We have already developed various awareness meterials and distributed among the people. For ensuring safety and security, we have been provided PPE for doctors, nurses and others health service providers, also police. For attracting mass people, we have already prepared awareness raising song and miking and publishing in urban and rural areas. Also a TV programme on COVID 19 issue is trying to captured that will be continuously broadcust through the local TV channel. As situation is going to lock-down position, ESDO have intantaneously taken decision to stay with day labour, rickshawa puller, auto charger drivers, ethnic minority and dalits in order to survive them within this pandemic situation. ESDO have given a food package with hyginic materials and some cash distribution within its working area’s people from its own initiative fund along with others INGOs contributions. The target population are mainly Ethnic Minority, Dalits, ultra poor, day labour, Doctors, Nurses, Police, others health service providers. The response size of population is 139496. The ESDO has dedicated this money for the COVID-19 disaster affected poor people. Through the Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon ESDO have provides BDT 1, 00,000 to District Disaster Relief Fund and BDT 3,00,000 to the Prime Minister fund through PKSF for food and other necessary assistance to stand against COVID-19. In addition, ESDO have been distributed food aid to 1,500 workless families on its own initiative and on the basis of local government and local needs. Besides, ESDO has also donated a grant BDT 20,000 to Tetulia Upazila ESDO representative is handing over BDT 1,00,000 cheque to Dr. K M Kamruzzaman Selim, DC, Thakurgaon. Disaster fund on the needs of upazila parishad chairman. All the people in this world are now locked into home due to epidemic created by the ESDO have been stayed with workless deadly Corona virus. Most of the people are now workless due to break the income and hopeless people options. Similarly, the lower income people are now helpless due to this workless and leading their life inhuman. Thankurgaon district are not beyond of this. For this reason, the renowned development organization- Eco Social Development Organization (ESDO) have been stayed along with these workless and hopeless poor and vulnerable people. Food assistance has been provided from its own fund. Nobody has been counted out from this assistance including Adibashi, Dalits, Rickshaw and van puller, Paglu driver, non government electrical labour and also labour of Mozzarella cheese factory. Among them, 655 household from Ethnic Minority and Dalit’s community; non government electrical labour and Mozzarella cheese factory labour 200, paglu driver, rickshaw and van puller 645, i.e, a total 1500 household have been covered under this food assistance. As items of food assistance, there was rice 5 kg, 3 kg potato, 1 kg salt, 500 kg mustered oil, 1 kg lentil. After getting the food supports, these workless people pray the long life of Dr. Md. Shahid Uz Zaman, Executive Director, ESDO and Salima Akhtar, Director (Admin), ESDO. Also they accept that the victory of ESDO would be spread out into every corners of our country. Beside this, from own ESDO fund, the disinfection spraying has been done in various places like main road of municipality area, various villages and word’s road, surrounding various offices and judge court office, Temple and Mosque and this ESDO’s food Assisstance to the workless people by Executive Director and Director (Admin). spraying programme is still now continuing . Cash distribution among the beneficiaries of ESDO SEEDS Project in Kurigram district With the financial assistance of Stromme Foundation Eco Social Development Organiza- tion (ESDO) has been implemented SEEDS Project in Kurigram district. To stand aside of jobless families during the global COVID-19 pandemic, this project have been distribut- ed BDT 8, 70,000 in cash from 13th to 15th April 2020 among 3000 families of 9 union of 3 upazila (Kurigram Sadar, Nagesswari and Ulipur) of Kurigram district. Local Union Parishad Chairman, Councilors, local honorable persons and development workers of the project were present during the distribution ceremony. Social distance was strictly maintained during the distribution ceremony. Project members are happy to receive the cash and thanks to ESDO SEEDs project members for this financial support during the pandemic situation. Providing financial assistance to 1123 sponsored child families under Hatibandha Upazila In recent times, a deadly virus named Novel Corona Virus has been attacked in worldwide and Bangladesh is not out of it. To reduce the impact of this virus, Bangladesh Government has taken many initiatives as a part of prevention strategy. As a part of this initiative, Eco-Social Development Organization (ESDO) and Plan International Bangladesh with the collaboration of local government will be provide assistance BDT 4500 as cash to each of 1123 poor children families and 6000 copies of issuewise awareness raising leaflets will be distributed within 6 Unions (Saniajan, Fakirpara, Barakhata, Singimari, Naodabas and Gotamari) of Hatibandha Upazila under Lalmonirhat District. This awareness raising activity has been recently started on 1st May, 2020 and will be continued till 30th June, 2020. ESDO News Letter March-May 2020 02 Distribution of Hygienic equipment and Awareness program has been carried out jointly between ESDO and Start Fund The COVID-19 prevention project name “Prevention of COVID-19 through awareness raising and basic protective equipment(PARBPE)” has been implemented in 24 unions and municipalities of Sadar upazilas of Thakurgaon, Panchagarh and Nilphamari districts through a joint venture of ESDO, DFID and Start Fund Bangladesh(SFB) to raise aware- ness on Novel Corona virus prevention. As part of the project, health hygiene equip- ments has distributed to 2511 extremely poor families, cash distribution among 290 ethnic minority and Dalits families; and awareness campaigns have conducted among 642197 mass people. The distributed equipments as hygiene kits was included bath soap 10 pieces, washing soap 5 piece, 2 hand sanitizers, 1 bucket with tube and lid, 1 soap case, 1 tub, 5 reusable masks and 1 instruction sheet. 3000 taka in cash is providing among each of the total 290 Ethnic Minority and Dalits household. Besides, A COVID-19 Awareness program has been occurred which has include; distribu- tion of 40,000 leaflets to the public, 15 days miking activities against Corona Virus, disinfectant sprays in risky communities of municipalities, social distance maintaining activism in 80 community and hand washing demonstrations; installed 20 temporary bilboard containing awareness information on Corona Virus. Through Via cable network traditional folk songs Gomvira has been published aimed at creating awareness about the Corona Virus and set up temporary B illboard in 3 districts. In these three districts, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gowns, aprons, plastic aprons, medical masks, face shields boot Masks, gumboots, heavy duty hand gloves and medical hand gloves will be provided to 1213 members of the law enforcement agencies and health departments of the Sadar Upazilas (doctors, nurses, police, traffic polices). Aong with this, as a integration of this programme, an NGO network have been formed in each districts. With the financial support of ESDO and HEKS/EPER, ESDO PREMDIP Project have been ESDO- PREMDIP Project food assistance provided food assistance to Adibashi and Dalit’s extremely poor peoples and creating within the Adibashi and Dalits families public awareness against COVID-19.
