Gopher Sports Marketing Internship 2019-2020 Job Description Are you looking for a behind-the-scenes, hands-on experience in sports marketing? An internship with Gopher Sports Marketing (GSM) provides not only extensive experience in collegiate sports, but also a chance to work with a team of individuals who are passionate about sports and the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. As a GSM Intern, you will develop as a leader by directing promotional activities for your assigned sport(s), and you will work with other interns to complete game day activities for all University of Minnesota Intercollegiate sports. Position Description: Assigned to one or two University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic sports o Baseball, M/W Basketball, M/W Cross Country, Football, M/W Golf, M/W Gymnastics, M/W Hockey, Rowing, Soccer, Softball, M/W Swimming & Diving, M/W Tennis, M/W Track & Field, Volleyball, Wrestling or Special Events Assist the Marketing staff with duties such as: o Implementing promotional and game day activities for assigned sports with the goal to assist with increasing fan experience, ticket sales, revenue generation and student attendance o Promote athletic events and communicate promotions within local community groups such as youth teams/leagues, performance groups, and the student body such as the Greek system and residence halls. o Improving the atmosphere of each event through the use of games, giveaways, contests, trivia, music, etc. o Coordinating with Event and Facilities Staff prior to and during events to ensure proper set up of promotional and game day activities o Directing a team of fellow interns at assigned sporting events to complete timeout/intermission promotional activities o Coordinating with camera crew, cheer squad, pep band, music coordinators, public address announcers to direct the flow of the game o Writing formats for fellow interns, video board operators, music operators, and the band/spirit squad o Assisting in fulfilling sponsorship elements such as logo exposure, PA announcements, and promotional activities o Completing necessary end-of-game and end-of-year reports o Assist with office responsibilities and other duties as assigned Requirements: Must hold a minimum of 6 office hours per week and attend necessary meetings Responsible for attending home games for assigned sports (including afternoon, night, weekend, and break events) Must be a current University of Minnesota student Must work at events outside of assigned sports Must be able to attend all home football games: 8/29, 9/14, 10/5, 10/12, 10/26, 11/9, 11/30 Preferred Qualifications: Benefits: Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks Experience at a Big Ten University Athletic department Excellent public relations, oral, and written Attend various social functions communication skills Opportunity for interaction with department sponsors and Flexible schedule supporters Team player with interest and passion for athletics Class credit available/practicum hours Application: Email or mail resume and cover letter to: Gopher Sports Marketing Email 159 3M Arena at Mariucci [email protected] 4 Oak Street SE Subject Line: Application Deadline: Minneapolis, MN 55455 2019-2020 GSM Internship Tuesday, April 2, 2019 .
