Landry July and August 2015 Cape Breton Post Friday Jan 10, 1986 Mrs. Freda Babineau, 92 Spring Garden Villa, formerly of Victoria Road, died at the residence Wednesday, January 8. Born at St. Pierre et Miquelon[sic] she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Mary (MacPhee) Fougere. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Church and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are three daughters Pauline Riley, Antigonish; Thelma (Mrs. Morgan Watts), Dartmouth; Theresa (Mrs. Earl Stevens), Victoria, B.C.; five sons Henry, George, Douglas, Frederick, all of Sydney, Alfred, Oshawa, Ont., 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband William in 1938, two sons Albert and Harry, one daughter, Mary, one brother, Simon, and two sisters, Bertha and Annie. Cape Breton Post Saturday July 22, 1972 HARRY SAMPSON GLACE BAY —Harry Sampson, 76, of Gardiner Mines died Friday at St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was a patient since July 1. A native of L’Ardoise, Mr. Sampson resided in Dominion and later took up residence at Gardiner Mines. He worked down through the years as a carpenter with various contractors. His last employment was with the Louisbourg project. He was a member of St. James parish. Besides his wife he is survived by a brother, Murdock, Dominion, sisters (Florence) Mrs. Gordon Nicholson, New Glasgow; (Katie) Mrs. James Corbett, Dominion, and Theresa Sampson, Dominion, retired school teacher in that town. The body is reposing at Curry's, 322 King Edward Street, with the funeral to take place Sunday. Mass will be offered at St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen, at 2 p.m., with internment to take place in St. John’s Cemetery. Chronicle Herald Tuesday Sept 25, 1973 Mrs. Elsie Jane Barrett, 79, South River Bourgeois, C.B., died Sunday in the Halifax Civic Hospital. She was born in South River Bourgeois and lived in Halifax most of her life. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Casmey, Labrador City; two sons, Peter and Henry, both of Halifax; two brothers, Peter and Maurice, Cape Breton; 11 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Joseph. The body is at the Halifax Funeral Home, Quinpool Road. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 8: 30 a.m. in St. Mary's Basilica. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Joseph, Ottawa; and Ralph, Verdun, Que.; three sisters, Audrey (Mrs. Joseph Sampson), and Irene, both of Windsor, Ont.; and Marion, Detroit. He was predeceased by eight sisters, Lavina, Deltha, Florence, Dorothy, Marguerite, Lavina, Cataline, Ruth; three brothers, Hycinth, Ernest, James; a set of twins in infancy. The body is in C.H. He is survived by his wife, the former Annie May Martell; a son David, Toronto; five daughters, Marian (Mrs. Y. Laplante), Halifax; Gloria (Mrs. J. Frosst), Toronto; Leona (Mrs. J. Gilbert) and Denise, both of Halifax; Sandra (Mrs. W.M. Morrison), Aldergrove, B.C.; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers. He is survived by three daughters, Theresa (Mrs. William Proctor), and Rita, (Mrs. David McNamara), both of Halifax; Sadie (Mrs. Lee MacPhee), Lower River inhabitants; one half-sister, Mrs. Annie McNamara, and one half-brother, Frank, both of Evanston, Richmond County; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Ann, and three sons, Douglas, Patrick Jr., and Harold He was employed for many years with the CNR as a section hand. Born in Poulamon, Richmond County, he was the son of the late Remi and Clara (Landry) Fougere. He was a retired stationery engineer at the former Point Edward Naval Base and a veteran of the Second World War. He served overseas in both the Atlantic and the Pacific theatres as a member of both the Royal Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy. He was an active member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish and served on the parish council. He was a past president of the local chapter of the Public Service Alliance of Canada. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12 and served on the board of referees of the unemployment insurance commission. He also served on various committees of both the Isle Royal Credit Union and the Sydney Credit Union. He was a fourth degree knight in the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife, the former Stella MacDonald; two daughters, Linda (Mrs. Robert Silva), California; Jeanne (Mrs. William Berry), Fair Oaks, Ca.; a son, Louis, Sydney; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond, a sister, Mary Ellen. The body is at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Church, Msgr. He served as a military police officer in the Canadian army.
