Sir Anthony Hopkins Biography Anthony Hopkins was born on December 31, 1937 in Port Talbot, Wales. At an early age, Hopkins revealed great talent for playing the piano, drawing and painting. At the age of 15, he was awarded a scholarship at the Royal Welch College of Music and Drama. Upon graduation, he served two years in the British army. In 1954, Hopkins resumed his theater and drama education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. By invitation of Sir Laurence Olivier, he joined the Royal National Theater as an understudy to Sir Laurence Olivier. His acting accolades include an Oscar, three Academy Award nominations, four British Academy Awards, two Emmy Awards and the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. Between film projects, Hopkins spends his time in the art studio or playing the piano. He is always practicing complex musical pieces or composing. In 2008, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performed his original music for piano. In 2011, his original score titled “And the Waltz Goes On” was performed in Vienna by the Dutch violinist, Andre Rieu. Later that year, Hopkins received international acclaim for his talent as a composer. The concert and recording of his original music performed by the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, placed him at the top of the Classical music charts for three consecutive months. Over the last decade, Hopkins’ art has captured worldwide attention, exhibiting in various prestigious galleries as a solo artist.
