C I A H N CHINA This introductory card will show you the beautiful attractions in my mind Humble Administrator’s Garden In 1513, Wang Xiancheng, an Imperial Envoy and poet of the Ming Dynasty, created a garden on the site of the dilapidated Dahong Temple which had been burnt during the Ming conquest. In 1510, he retired to his native home of Suzhou on the occasion of his father’s death. He had experienced a tu- multuous official life punctuated by various demotions and promotions, and gave up his last official post as magistrate of Yongjia county in Zhejiang province, and began to work on the garden.[3] This garden, meant to express his fine taste, received close attention from the renowned artist, Suzhou native, and friend, Wen Zhengming. SUZHOU • CHINA Leshan Giant Buddha The Leshan Giant Buddha the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world, and it is by far the tallest pre-modern statue in the world. It is a 71-metre (233 ft) tall stone statue, built between 713 and 803 (during the Tang Dynasty). It is carved out of a cliff face that lies at the confluence of the Min River and Dadu River in the southern part of Sichuan province in China, near the city of Leshan. LESHAN • CHINA Jiu Zhai Gou Jiuzhaigou was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and a World Biosphere Re- serve in 1997.[1] It belongs to the category V (Protected Landscape) in the IUCN system of protected area categorization. It is known for its many multi-level waterfalls, colorful lakes, and snow-capped peaks. Its elevation ranges from 2,000 to 4,500 metres (6,600 to 14,800 ft). JIUZHAIGOU • CHINA.
