QUALIFICATIONS: A secondary school education. The possession of subjects at CXC General Proficiency level would be an asset. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares and delivers mail. Clears posting boxes. Records the particulars on Letter Bills in respect of registered mail, returns damaged letters and mail cleared from the posting boxes. Reports damages to postal packets and posting boxes. Re-directs mail. Assists with the clearing of Post Office mail vans. Assists with the preparation and dispatching of mail to the General Post Office. …/2….. -2- Assists with the primary sorting of mail when required. Assists with the opening of mail and the calling back and stacking of parcels received from the Post Office Reports damages to Posting Boxes Performs any other related duties as required by the officer in charge. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good written and oral skills. Ability to maintain high level of confidentially Demonstration of good time-management skills. Ability to function as a team member. KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: A sound knowledge of the Postmen Operations Manual. A good knowledge of the postal operations A good knowledge of the Post Office Act Cap. 27A. A good knowledge of University Postal Union (UPU) Rules and Regulations Relevant knowledge of the Public Service Act Cap. 29 and General Order. SALARY SCALE: Z38-30: $23,242.68 x 868.68 - $30,192.12 APPOINTMENT: The appointment may be permanent or temporary. If permanent the appointment is subject to medical fitness and a probationary period except in the case of serving officers. If temporary the appointment is subject to termination by at least one month’s notice on either side. LEAVE Leave is granted as follows: Vacation Leave: For officers working less than five (5) years, twenty one (21) days vacation leave is granted annually, fourteen (14) days of which must be taken annually or lost. Maximum accumulation of leave is thirty-five (35) days. (ii) For officers working more than five (5) years, thirty (30) days vacation leave is granted annually, fourteen (14) of which must be taken annually or lost. Maximum accumulation of seventy (70) days. …/3….. -3- Sick leave: Twenty-one (21) days per year for permanently appointed officers. Fourteen (14) days sick leave per year for temporary officers. THE METHOD OF SELECTION: The selection process will be based on merit and may involve interviews, oral and/or written tests, and/or any other method of selection approved by the Public Service Commission. Only suitably qualified applicants will be considered for selection. A Priority List arising out of the selection process and approved by the appointing authority, will be valid for a period of two (2) years in keeping with the Section 6 of the First Schedule of the Recruitment and Employment Code of the Public Service Act, Cap. 29. Applicants should be aware that where more than one method of selection is used, applicants may be shortlisted in order to move on to the next stage of the selection process. ASSESSMENT: Officers will be assessed on the following:- Relevant qualifications and professional training. Experience. Performance Review and Development System (PRDS). Performance at the interview. General suitability. Any other assessment method approved by the Public Service Commission. It should be noted that the Performance Review and Development System (PRDS) System, will be required for all candidates. All officers are subject to the Public Service Act Cap. 29, regulations, rules, orders and departmental instructions which may be in force from time to time. Performance will be assessed annually using the Performance Review and Development System (PRDS).
