(089) 55 52 55 (U1 STIGLMAIERPLATZ) MITGLIED DER GILDE DEUTSCHER FILMKUNSTTHEATER UND DER ARBEITSGEMEINSCHAFT KINO The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro e (D: Marc Webb; Cast: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx) The highly anticipated action-packed sequel of 2012’s reboot of the popular superhero story finds Peter Parker (Garfield; »The Social Net- work«) enjoying his double-life as Spider-Man: After saving his fellow New Yorkers from crime in all shapes and forms, he can swing home and spend time with the lovey Gwen (Stone; »The Help«). But Peter is about to learn more about the grim downside of being a superhero: With the emergence of Electro (Foxx), Spider-Man faces an enemy far more powerful than himself. The return of his friend, Harry Osborn (DeHaan) also doesn’t make things easier, as Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp, the company of Harry’s father. Divergent (Die Bestimmung) e (D: Neil Burger; Cast: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Wins- let, Ashley Judd) Based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth, this thrilling action-adventure is set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Woodley, »The Descendants«) is warned she is ‘Divergent’ and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader (Winslet; »Titanic«) to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (James; »Underworld«) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so danger- ous before it’s too late.. In style with »The Hunger Games« series, this action-packed romantic fantasy has an empathetic heroine, an intriguing premise and enough twists to make it sure-footed, sus- penseful, and sequel-ready. Dom Hemingway e (D: Richard Shepard; Cast: Jude Law, Richard E. Grant, Emilia Clarke) In this amusing and stylishly told tale of vengeance, debauch- ery and redemption, Jude Law plays Dom Hemingway, a larger-than- life safecracker with a loose fuse who is funny, profane, and dangerous. After twelve years in prison, he sets off with his partner in crime Dickie (Grant; »The Iron Lady«) looking to collect what he is owed for keep- ing his mouth shut and protecting his boss. After a near death experi- ence, Dom tries to re-connect with his estranged daughter (Clarke; TV’s »Game of Thrones«), but is soon drawn back into the only world he knows, looking to settle the ultimate debt. A fun, non-stop ram- page of creative cursing, histrionics and debauchery. Transcendence e (D: Wally Pfister; Cast: Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany) In this sci-fi mystery thriller that marks the directorial debut of long-time cinematographer Wally Pfister, Dr. Will Caster (Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, striving to create a ma- chine that possesses sentient and collective intelligence. Anti-technol- ogy extremists target him, but in their attempt to destroy Will, they in- advertently become the catalyst for him to succeed-to be a participant in his own transcendence. His wife Evelyn (Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Bettany), both fellow researchers, question the wisdom of this drive, and their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him. The Invisible Woman e (D: Ralph Fiennes; Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Felicity Jones, Kristin Scott Thomas) Most of Charles Dickens’ acclaimed work as an author is well known, whether it’s »Oliver Twist«, »Great Expectations« or »A Christ- mas Carol«. What some may not know is that he had a young mistress named Nelly Ternan for 13 years right up until his death, something accounted by Claire Tomalin in her acclaimed novel, on which this handsomely mounted period drama is based. As Nelly (Jones) be- comes the focus of Dickens’ (Fiennes) passion and his muse, for both of them secrecy is the price, and for Nelly a life of ‘invisibility.’ Impres- sively directed, emotionally engaging British costume drama with a sensitive script, stunning production design work and terrific perfor- mances from a fine ensemble cast. .
