Awards of Distinction Including: HALL OF FAME DISTINGUISHED PLAYER AWARDS ANNUAL AWARDS TEAM OF THE CENTURY TEAM OF THE HQ DECADE HEC CORMIE BURSARY WINNERS Hall of Fame Preamble Introduction The Directors of Hockey Queensland have approved the establishment of a Hall Of Fame to recognise those players (see criteria) who, in the opinion of the Board, have achieved excellence in the sport of hockey and who have therefore brought credit to themselves and to the sport. Selection The selection of those who are to be inducted into the Hall of Fame will be at the sole discretion of the Board upon the recommendation of an Inductions Committee approved by the Hockey Queensland Board of Directors. Presentation Inductees will be presented with a memento to recognise their achievement and their name permanently recorded on public display on the Honour Board especially for this award. Nomination The Induction Committee may, at its absolute discretion, seek and accept nominations from any source including affiliated associations. It may reject any or all nominations if in the opinion of the Committee, none of the nominations are of sufficient merit to justify their induction into the Hall of Fame. The Induction Committee may recommend any number of persons for induction or none in any year. Criteria for Selection In considering the merit or otherwise of persons being considered for induction into the Hall of Fame the Induction Committee will take into consideration the following criteria: Person selected will have achieved fame as a player; it being recognised that persons who render extraordinary services as administrators and officials may be honoured by Life Membership, Distinguished Service Award etc.; The person will have represented Queensland for at least five (5) years and Australia for at least three (3) years and additionally would have expected to have ceased playing in open national competition for at least five years Candidate’s public standing in addition to outstanding service and contribution to the game. - The committee may consider a candidate’s individual record, ability, integrity, sportsmanship and character. - The number of hockey games played, coached, or umpired or the years of service provided shall only be a consideration and shall not be determinative in assessing candidate eligibility. - In accessing the merit or otherwise of a person the Induction Committee may take into account that persons contribution to the sport at association level as a coach, umpire, or volunteer. Representative recognition will be for Queensland Women’s Hockey Association, Queensland Hockey Association and Hockey Queensland. Players who represent Queensland and Australia have the opportunity of being recognised and rewarded by their induction in the Hockey Queensland Hall of Fame. Therefore if a certain player is a Hall of Fame Inductee, he or she can still be recognised by this Award. Guidelines that are to be followed in selecting the players that are to be honoured by this policy are: . Has retired from representing the State at open level for more than two years . Has represented the State at open level for more than seven years . Inductions into the Distinguished Player Award may be every year with the announcement being confirmed at the HQ Annual Awards Presentation or another suitable presentation event.
