The Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention Study evaluates the effectiveness of a revised drug prevention education curriculum delivered by D.A.R.E. programs in public schools. Duties: coordinating research efforts with administrators at school sites, ensuring IRB compliance, and administration of pre-tests and post-tests to students; facilitating focus groups with adolescents and adults, conducting interviews, and providing constructive feedback regarding the design of the survey instrument and implementation of the study design in Los Angeles. Responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising volunteer research assistants from local colleges and universities, and assisting with budget management for the Los Angeles Region. Also responsible for creating partnerships with local colleges to coordinate opportunities for students to gain work experience as researchers through Volunteer and Service Learning Programs and/or college internships. Duties: Researched legislative intent, gathered and analyzed data, assisted in facilitating discussions with a project team appointed to evaluate and implement regulation changes for a statewide social welfare program. Assisted in the writing of a final document presented to the state legislature for review. American Indian Tobacco Education Network. Duties: Contacted and interviewed Tribal Leaders of all Indian Reservations in CA regarding the implementation and outcome of tobacco education programs. Sacramento Decisions. Duties: Recruited, trained, and supervised research assistants responsible for gathering data and implementing community outreach/ education efforts for a citywide research project. October 1996- Administrative Analyst, City Managers Office, City of Sacramento June 1997 Duties: assisted in setting target budget reduction amounts for each department, edited and reviewed departmental instructions for budget submittals, reviewed and analyzed efficiency efforts and outcomes, and designed an implementation process for achieving savings through a combination of budget costs and efficiency efforts. Led focus groups with community members and city officials in an effort to explore creative solutions to address the city’s $14 million budget deficit. Recruited, coordinated, and trained over 200 community volunteers to act as facilitators in citywide community discussions, developed the training curriculum for facilitators, developed the facilitation techniques and outlines to be used in community discussions, and evaluated/ assigned volunteers based on their abilities. Coordinated the logistics for a citywide event, which hosted over 750 residents and city leaders. Prepared and delivered oral and written presentations and progress reports to city officials, including department heads, the Mayor’s Chief of Staff, Deputy City Managers, and the City Manager. October 1997- Program Facilitator, Pacific Educational Services June 1998 Duties: Designed curriculum for Positive Anger Control and Responsible Decision Making classes, and facilitated seminars for first time offenders (both adolescents and adults) ordered by the court to attend such classes. Topics covered included: alcohol/ drug abuse, domestic violence, anger management, stress management, organizational skills, communication techniques, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
