Strong field nearly complete for A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (June 29, 2018): The final field for A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier in 2018 is almost set. The deadline to register has expired meaning the field is nearly complete, except for the four open qualifying spots that will be designated during Monday’s qualifier at The Resort at Glade Springs. Headlining the late additions to the final list was five-time Major champion Phil Mickelson, The Greenbrier PGA TOUR Ambassador. Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, a member of The Greenbrier Sporting Club, is the highest-ranked player in the field, coming in at No. 13 on the Official World Golf Rankings. Watson also ranks the highest in the PGA TOUR FedExCup standings at No. 3. Below is a look at some of the highlights of this year’s field by the numbers. 11: Eleven players playing in A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier have already won on the PGA TOUR this season. Ryan Armour (Sanderson Farms Championship), Patton Kizzire (OHL Classic at Mayakoba, Sony Open), Austin Cook (RSM Classic), Sean O’Hair (QBE Shootout), Ted Potter Jr. (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am), Bubba Watson (Genesis Open, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, Travelers Championship), Phil Mickelson (WGC-Mexico Championship), Brice Garnett (Corales Putacana Resort & Club Championship), Scott Piercy (Zurich Classic of New Orleans), Webb Simpson (The Players Championship) and Aaron Wise (AT&T Byron Nelson) make up this season’s winners. 10: Ten players in this year’s field have played in every Greenbrier Classic/A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier since its inception in 2010. Those players are Ricky Barnes, Jonathan Byrd, John Daly, Brendon de Jonge, J.J. Henry, Charles Howell III, D.A. Points, Webb Simpson, Cameron Tringale and Johnson Wagner. 10: Nine winners of Major Championships are on the list of confirmed players. Mickelson has won five, while Watson, Angel Cabrera, Vijah Singh and John Daly have all won two. Webb Simpson, Jim Furyk, Jimmy Walker, Geoff Ogilvy and Keegan Bradley have won one each. 7: All seven past champions of the event will return with Stuart Appleby (2010), Scott Stallings (2011), Ted Potter Jr. (2012), Jonas Blixt (2013), Angel Cabrera (2014), Danny Lee (2015) and Xander Schauffele (2017) on the list of registered players. 7: Seven of the Top 25 players in the PGA TOUR FedExCup Standings will play in A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier. Bubba Watson ranks third, while Phil Mickelson (8), Patton Kizzire (9) and Webb Simpson (10) are all in the top 10. Tony Finau is knocking on the door at No. 11, while Brian Harman is No. 17 and Aaron Wise No. 23. 7: Seven of the top 35 players in the Official World Golf Rankings will be part of the field next week.
