Spring Vision ’87 was supposed to be a fashion show, but I heard it was more like a nightclub, and a raging one at that. Santa Barbara showed it had cool fashion and hot models to hang it on, then everybody boogied the night away. We’ve got a powerful hunch that this Saturday’s Spring Vision '89, the fashion show /party to benefit AIDS: CAP, will top it. AIDS: CAP (Counseling and Assistance Program) is a local organization trying desperately to provide humane services for a community completely unprepared to deal with the onslaught of the disease. Spring Vision Coordinator/Choreographer Alex Munoz has received notice throughout the international fashion community for putting fashion shows together, with dancing models, in ventive props, and cutting-edge light displays. Pathfinder, the first installment in Arts and Lectures New Norwegian Cinema Series, fits well into the coming-of-age genre. But rather than the expanse of space or a post-apocalyptic landscape - along the lines of Road Warrior, the time and place is 1,000 years ago in the ice plains of northern Norway. The story is of a 16-year-old boy who, after wit nessing the murder of his family, comes of age while seeking revenge. In so many variations we’ve seen this story before, from westerns to sci-fi. So it's a fair compliment to say that director Nils Gaup's is never dull. It is both fascinating to see another culture tell the tale in its own language and just as much fun to watch the adventure retold as it was the first time you saw by Jeffrey c. whalen times, beautiful and places, its sinewy threads I expect to see a talking "Star W ars." visionary.
