EVERYONE HAS A REASON TO END ALZHEIMER’S 2018 YORK WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S EVENT GUIDE WELCOME Thank you for registering for the 2018 York Walk to End Alzheimer’s! Please review the attached information to ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable Walk Day experience. We look forward to walking with you on October 20, 2018! BANK DAYS Bank Day is an opportunity for your team to turn in any donations, pick up shirts, and pick up your team’s wristbands. This year, more than ever, attending a Bank Day will expedite your registration process. Pre-registered participants with wristbands will enter through an express entrance called FAST PASS. For information on this, see page 3. We will have a Bank Night available. If you plan to attend this Bank Night, you can RSVP to Fran at [email protected] with your shirt sizes and we will pull them ahead of time. Get access to FAST PASS if you attend Bank Night. Tuesday, October 16th, 2017 4:00 PM—6:00 PM SpiriTrust Lutheran Spenkle Drive 1801 Folkemer Circle York PA 17404 (Not Skilled Care, make a left to the Welcome Center & there will be signage leading you to us!) REGISTRATION All participants are required to register for the event—this includes participants of all ages. Whenever possible, we suggest registering online at act.alz.org/york2018 prior to noon on October 19, 2018. Stop Here First/Registration Upon arriving at the event, participants will approach the Registration Tables. These are located in the parking lot of the John C. Rudy Park, by Handicap parking and bus drop off. Already Registered with Wristbands: You will see a FAST PASS sign or show your wristband to our greeters! Already Registered, No Wristbands: Registration Table will be sectioned by last name and Team. Find the table designated by team name, or last name if you are not on a team. Provide them with your last name to be checked in. You will be given your wristband and you may proceed into the event. Not Yet Registered: If you are not registered prior to the event, you will be asked to complete a registration form prior to entering the event. Once completed you will be given a wristband and you may proceed into the event. The Accounting Area will be near on the right of the Registration Tables. This is where you can turn in donations, pick-up shirts and get your slip for the Champions tent if you have reached $500 or more! DONATIONS Donations NOT turned in online, via mail, or at Bank Day can be turned in the day of the event. Please bring your donations pre-counted and in an envelope. Please make sure to have the following on the outside of the envelope: Amount enclosed Name of the Team Name of the participant who should receive credit All donations turned in at the event will be deposited immediately following the event. Given the large number of donations we receive the week of the event as well as at the event, please allow up to 2-3 weeks to see your donations to post to your webpage. CREDIT CARD DONATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE WALK Get mobile and Text 2ENDALZ to 51555 SHIRTS 2018 Commemorative Walk Shirts will be given to each individual who raises $100. If you have donations to turn in, you must turn them in prior to picking up your shirt. After all donations have been turned in, you will receive a ticket for your shirt. If you do not have donations to turn in, but have raised enough to earn a shirt, you may proceed directly to the t-shirt area. If you plan to pick up shirts for other individuals, please be prepared with their shirt sizes. Shirts are available in sizes S—XXXL. PROMISE GARDEN On Walk day, walkers will have an opportunity to select and personalize a promise flower. In order to receive a promise flower, you must have a wristband given at either Bank Day or Registration. To help the pick up of your flower go smoothly, please know which color flower pertains to you. These will be used during our opening ceremony. Blue—I have Alzheimer’s or dementia. Yellow—I am caring or supporting someone with Alzheimer's or dementia. Purple—I have lost someone to Alzheimer’s or dementia. Orange—I do not have a direct connection to Alzheimer’s or dementia but support the vision for a world without these diseases. TIMELINE 8:30 AM—Registration Opens 9:00 AM—Pre-event Festivities including: Balloons, Temporary Tattoos, Face Painting, Canvas: Silent Auction, Sing for a Cure and more…. 10 AM—Opening Ceremony: Including Promise Garden Ceremony 10:30 AM—Walk begins 11:30 AM— Silent Auction ends (Paint gun artwork: be sure to place your bid before you start walking & bring your check book!) ROUTE The walk route will start on the path behind the stage & near the Photo Area with the balloon arch. Everyone will walk straight through the balloon arch after Mayor Michael Helfrich & top team cuts the ribbon. You will be able to choose whether to walk the one or two mile loop. At the split between staying on the shorter path or walking the longer route there will be a water station/radio station. Be sure to hydrate if you will be doing the longer loop! Both paths will end back at the parking lot near the Canvas (so put in your bid!). 2- Mile Route (blue) / 1-Mile Route (red) Water stops and benches will also be available throughout the walk. PARKING Parking Area Bus Drop off Area Handicap Parking Area All of the parking spaces within John C. Rudy Park are available for this event. Some Handicapped spaces will be available in the parking lot being used for the Event. Buses will pull in around the handicapped parking loop and drop off directly in from the Registration tables. OTHER DETAILS Dress weather appropriate—our event is rain or shine! Light refreshments will be provided including water, fruit, granola bars, etc. You are welcome to bring seating. However, you are responsible for whatever you bring with you. Security will not be provided. We thank you for not smoking immediately inside our event. Pets are permitted in the public property areas of our event, however, please keep in mind that we are expecting thousands of participants. Large crowds can be overwhelming for pets and cause distress for otherwise well behaved animals. Any pets who do attend must be leashed and cleaned up after. Thank You to Our Sponsors!
