Embracing Our Shared Responsibility for Promoting the Vitality of the Association and Its Mission

Embracing our shared responsibility for promoting the vitality of the Association and its mission The Marist Association of Saint Marcellin Champagnat Prepared by Association Executive Officer: Dr Frank Malloy 29 January 2020 1 11:40:290120 New Structure to support the growth of the Marist Association of Saint Marcellin Champagnat Introduction The Marist Association of Saint Marcellin Champagnat has grown to include almost 1000 members since its establishment in June 2014. The reasons for this number of people making the decision to join are many. The desire to “associate” as Marists has been a formal commitment to what they have felt, done and been as followers of Jesus for many years. Most would speak of having experienced meaningful, quality, rewarding work and inspirational formation in various Marist ministries. In the initial years of the Association, it was decided to create a “Pastoral Team”, whose focus was largely on development, membership and belonging. The leadership provided in defining the nature of the Association by Joe McCarthy and other members of that team has been significant in this foundation phase. Listening to the Spirit The Association’s initial document, We Marists, published in 2016 captured the collective vision and priorities of this new entity for Australian Marists for the first three years. In 2019, the Association’s second document, As Marists, describes the guiding principles discerned by members throughout 2018 and particularly the 200 delegates at the Association Assembly in Adelaide that year. In relation to our Marist spiritual family, principles 8 and 9 outline our intentions. “We embrace our shared responsibility for promoting the vitality of our Association and its mission.” (Principle 8 p.9 As Marists 2019) “We develop ways of strengthening our spiritual family, creating opportunities for people to experience a sense of belonging and commitment.” (Principle 9 p.9 As Marists 2019) 29 January 2020 2 11:40:290120 Ensuring vitality and Shared responsibility through distributive leadership Consistent with these guiding principles, a new organisational structure has been established representing progression to a more integrated model, with the imperatives of responsibility for formation, belonging and membership distributed across a greater number of leaders directly employed by the Association. The life and activity of the Association has matured to a point where a more distributive model of leadership and responsibility is required. This is an evolution which would not have been possible without the foundations laid in the establishment years by the Director of Belonging and Development, members of the Association Pastoral Team, the two Association Councils and many other committed Marists in a variety of roles across the country. This new organisational structure aligns with the Guiding Principles of the Association, as described in As Marists, particularly for our spiritual family. Recalling the almost unanimous encouragement of the Australian Bishops with whom there was consultation when the concept of the Association was first shared, a strong emphasis and priority in relation to formation has been a consistent goal of the Association. The Mission and Life Formation Team (MLF) is an important and highly valued source of spiritual nourishment, inspiration and guidance for Marists, and represents a major financial investment by the Association. For 2020, under the leadership of the Director Mr Tony Clarke, MLF team members will be based in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, each with responsibility in regard to formation for members of the Association. Development and support for Association Local Groups is a priority for all members of the MLF team, named and prioritised in their role descriptions. This new model builds on the existing arrangements of the MLF with our schools and other ministries and assumes responsibilities previously undertaken by the Association Pastoral Team. Guidance and support in regard to formation opportunities, spiritual accompaniment, and various occasions to gather will include that already detailed in the Association’s 2020 Programmes and Events booklet distributed last year. Existing local groups will be supported by members of the MLF as represented below. 29 January 2020 3 11:40:290120 Marist Mission and Life Team and Local Groups MARIST MISSION & LIFE FORMATION TEAM SCHOOL / MINISTRY / LOCAL COORDINATOR CONTACTS AREA LOCAL MINISTRY SCHOOL CONTACT Perth Newman College Newman College Mark O’Farrell WESTERN AUSTRALIA Bunbury Bunbury Catholic College Bunbury Catholic College Mark O’Farrell Northam St Joseph’s School St Joseph’s School Mark O’Farrell Adelaide Sacred Heart College Sacred Heart College Mark O’Farrell SOUTH AUSTRALIA Cardijn College Cardijn College Mark O’Farrell Aquinas College, University Mark O’Farrell Melbourne Marcellin College Marcellin College Dennis Cooper Exodus Community Dennis Cooper Youth Ministry Dennis Cooper Sale Catholic College Sale Catholic College Sale Mark O’Farrell Traralgon Lavalla Catholic College Lavalla Catholic College Mark O’Farrell VICTORIA Warragul Marist-Sion College Marist-Sion College Mark O’Farrell Kilmore Assumption College Assumption College Dennis Cooper Shepparton Notre Dame College Notre Dame College Dennis Cooper Bendigo Marist College Bendigo Marist College Bendigo Dennis Cooper Wangaratta Galen Catholic College Galen Catholic College Dennis Cooper AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL Canberra Marist College Canberra Marist College Canberra Ryan Gato TERRITORY Auburn/Regent’s Trinity Catholic College Trinity Catholic College Anna Nasr Park Daceyville St Michael’s Catholic Primary School St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Mark O’Farrell Dundas St Patrick’s Marist College St Patrick’s Marist College Anna Nasr Eastwood Marist College Eastwood Marist College Eastwood Anna Nasr NEW SOUTH WALES Hunters Hill St Joseph’s College St Joseph’s College Ryan Gato Kogarah Marist College Kogarah Marist College Kogarah Anna Nasr Lewisham The John Berne School The John Berne School Anna Nasr North Shore Marist College North Shore Marist College North Shore Ryan Gato Pagewood Champagnat Catholic College Champagnat Catholic College Ryan Gato Parkes Holy Family Parish School Holy Family Parish School Paul Harris 29 January 2020 4 11:40:290120 Parramatta Parramatta Marist High School Parramatta Marist High School Anna Nasr Penshurst Marist Catholic College Penshurst Marist Catholic College Penshurst Anna Nasr Randwick Marcellin College Marcellin College Ryan Gato Sydney Sydney City Marists Anthony Clarke Marist Centre Sydney Anthony Clarke Sydney West Marist180 Marist 180 Paul Harris Marist Lerning Zone Marist Learning Zone Paul Harris Pete’s Place Pete’s Place Paul Harris Campbelltown St Gregory’s College St Gregory’s College Anna Nasr Rosemeadow John Therry Catholic High School John Therry Catholic High School Anna Nasr Varroville Mt Carmel Catholic College Mt Carmel Catholic College Anna Nasr Forbes Red Bend Catholic College Red Bend Catholic College Paul Harris Griffith Marian Catholic College Marian Catholic College Paul Harris Leeton St Francis De Sales Regional College St Francis De Sales Regional College Paul Harris Maitland All Saints College All Saints College Ryan Gato Newcastle St Francis Xavier’s College St Francis Xavier’s College Ryan Gato Lismore Trinity Catholic College Lismore Trinity Catholic College Lismore Elizabeth Falconer Ashgrove Marist College Ashgrove Marist College Ashgrove Catherine Foley Brisbane Marist Centre Brisbane Elizabeth Falconer Beenleigh Trinity College Beenleigh Trinity College Beenleigh Elizabeth Falconer Mitchelton Mt Maria College Mt Maria College Catherine Foley Petrie Mt Maria College Petrie Mt Maria College Petrie Catherine Foley Riverview St Peter Claver College St Peter Claver College Catherine Foley Cairns St Augustine’s College St Augustine’s College Neville Solomon QUEENSLAND Innisfail Good Counsel College Good Counsel College Neville Solomon Sunshine Coast St Teresa’s Catholic College St Teresa’s Catholic College Catherine Foley St Thomas More Primary St Thomas More Primary Catherine Foley Murgon St Joseph’s Primary School St Joseph’s Primary School Catherine Foley Ayr Burdekin Catholic High School Burdekin Catholic High School Elizabeth Falconer St Francis Primary School St Francis Primary School Elizabeth Falconer Emerald Marist College Emerald Marist College Emerald Neville Solomon Gladstone Chanel College Chanel College Neville Solomon Central Australia Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Elizabeth Falconer NORTHERN Catholic College College TERRITORY Ltyentye Apurte Catholic School Ltyentye Apurte Catholic School Elizabeth Falconer 29 January 2020 5 11:40:290120 Coordinating Membership The successful experiences in regard to growing membership over the past five years clearly indicate that specific attention given to inviting, accepting and carefully following up expressions of interest is necessary. In 2020, this function will be undertaken nationally by the Coordinator of Membership, Michael Evison. As a member of the Association Pastoral Team, Michael was highly effective in managing and promoting membership applications for New South Wales, as well as supporting Local Groups and individuals. Michael will be responsible to the Association Council through the Association Executive Officer. The promotion of and encouragement to membership of the Association will be a shared responsibility of all Ministry Leaders, Principals, Local Group Leaders and MLF team members. Communication Christlife will be edited by Michael Evison and produced again by Tracey Doublet, appearing regularly throughout the year. Michael and Tracey will also maintain the Association online presence through the Association website and Facebook page.
